    Casio Solar G Shock Problem

I have the Casio GW300 G Shock and I'm having a problem with it. About 10 days ago when I went to NYC I noticed that when I tried to turn on the back light it would only flash for a second and then recover would flash on the watch face. About 4 days later my watch completly lost all settings including time, date, etc. I've tried to charge the watch up to full and it works but then over night again it loses all settings. I tried turning off the Auto Update feature but still it lost all charge over night. Help

Unfortunately, it looks as though you have the fairly well-documented GW-300 battery problem... which is also said to affect GW-500s.

The early models had this problem, but it appears not to be a problem on newer models. The only remedy is a replacement rechargable battery, which for all except the most expert DIYers (my local high street watch repairer can't do it, for example) means 'back to Casio'.

    Sorry.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

Can you tell me where I can buy the battery for this watch. I really don't want to send it in because I'm sure it will cost $20 for repair + shipping which is almost as much as a new watch, you can get then for $40-50 online new.

Smile Well of course fella's I do work, so I can't always be on here

Anyway to answer your question, The battery in question is a Panasonic made battery. You can contact Panasonic or Casio. I would send you one but I sent out the only one I had. Others have place a convential CR1616 (non rechargeable Battery) in the watch and have gotton good results(not solar anymore but it works as a watch) Remember if you are going do this, I wouls advise you to gently remove the module from the watch(Does not need to be all the way out(watch out for the ribbin wire that is the radio reciver)) and you will see two goldish springs at the bottom of the watch near the light button. just pull em out as they conect the module to the solar cell(I have no clue what charging a conventional battery in a solar watch will do but I know a non rechargeable battery in a battery recharger will explode(though I don't think this is the case it could cause it to leak)

    Good luck
    Leon

    Leon:

Do you know a battery number for the rechargeable Panasonic battery?

That way Benchmark may be able to puchase it easier, otherwise he may replace with the wrong cell

I think Sjors also knows this battery number, same as the Cafe model Ya?

Is that the same number for the rechargeable battery also. I saw a sight online that had that number and it was saying it was rechargable. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Casio Solar G Shock Problem

CTL and ML are the prefixes for the solar storage cells. CR is the prefix for regular non solar lithium batteries

CTL1616 is the solar storage battery(this is its name and part name)

CR1616 is the non solar battery

    Cheers
    Leon
