    what's your budget?

If you want rooms by the hour, try Hotel81.....real trashy or Fragrance Hotel, but not really fragrant.
They are probably cheap but can't say it's cheerful. Only one man at the counter who's also bell hop cum concierge cum cook cum room cleaner.

Try Nostalgia Hotel or Robertson Quay Hotel.

US$40 if possible, for a single room.

Thanks for that. I'll check them out. I'm still hoping that I can crash at some other relatives, if they have space. Failing that, I may have to try and tap up some 'friends' I haven't seen in a few years, or try to stay with some 'relatives' of my mum's in JB.

Flying from Tokyo to Singapore. There for about 5 days, then flying from there to Ipoh on Firefly. I'm flying Delta on air miles. Unfortunately, Delta doesn't have flights to Malaysia, and the flights in/out of Singapore are at really stupid times.

Godspeed and good luck. When are you arriving? From now till 12th Feb is probably not very good timing cause Malaysia and Singapore are in shut down mode for the Chinese NEw YEar holidays...

Everything is expensive and hotels fully booked and public transport fully booked....

i'd avoid those trashy hotels, sleazy by singapore's standards.

Consider a backpacker's hostel, cheap and clean, here are some:

    Re: Cheap accommodation in Singapore

Arriving on the 3rd, leaving Monday. I only decided to go last week - a combination of finding out that I had no work in Feb when I thought I'd be busy, and that my quiet April may actually be busy. I though my mum had arranged for me to stay with relos in Sing yesterday, so I booked my Ipoh flight last night. When I called today to talk to them they said they had no room for me. If I'd known (or if my mum had contacted me), I would have just sat it out somewhere for 8 hours for the morning bus. Oh well. C'est la vie.

mt01, welcome to WUS. Those hotels may be trashy, but might be all I can afford. Thanks for the links. I found this site, and might book something through them, although I don't know how they'd feel about me turning up at 1.30am on their doorstep.

Ouch. 3rd is the first day of Chinese New Year! Singapore will be a 'ghost town'. Shops are closed and everything will be expensive. Yes shops that are open during the Chinese New Year holidays often mark up their prices by about 5% to 10%. Expect them to open earliest on Saturday or maybe even Monday all thanks to the extended weekend holidays! If you're aren't too busy maybe we can meet up and have coffee!

To be honest, I don't think cheap and Singapore can be in one sentence! (smiles). I have visited quite a few times and found hotel prices to be on par with other major cities in Asia (Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, etc).

    Have fun!
