Question Which CHEAP!!! G as first G?

    Hello there,

This is my first post. I am looking for my first G-Shock!!!
Current EDC is a Black Monster. 4 years plus at my wrist.

I want to know what you knowledgeable folks would choose as a First G-Shock knowing what you now know.

-Must be cheap (OK, inexpensive) for a G-Shock. Let's say around $60's.
-I don't require any 'special' features. I'm a realtor/college student/dad so no need for anything beyond the G's basic Triple Ten Philosophy's nature. If you must know :) snorkling, shotgunning, patio work and handling a 3 year old would be the task it must help me acomplish.
-Should be widely accesible to US residents. So current production or recently discontinued, would be a good idea.

If you need to know what has caught my eye, the lower priced Mudman (green/reverse display) and simpler 5600's look good.

It's just that with so many models I'd like to start off with a GREAT MODEL which epitomizes G-Shock .

    Any and all help welcomed!

I don't think I can top those choices, although you can probably get the black Mudman with normal display in that price range. The green/negative display one is cool, but not always easy to read.

What has already caught your eye is a great place to start. The Mudman and DW-5600E are both awesome models.

    Welcome OrangeJoe!

My nominations are the classics: DW-5600E, DW-9052, DW-6900.

    Many would add the DW-6600.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

A no-brainer: GW 5600J-1V - classic look, solar power, atomic timekeeping, $60 ish online.

    Wow, you guys are fast!

What (little) I have learned from reading the forum for the past 5 hours non-stop, is that, for example, G9000 designates a specific model but that here in the forum 'Mudman'/and or G9000 is used liberally to describe that 'series' which may/may not share some features.

So tribe125, when you say DW-6600, would it be EXACTLY that model or would your recommendation extend to all model numbers that start DW-6600?

    of course I second that

and if I may add to orange joe: for a beginner a g-shock with negative display (green mudman) might not be the best choice. its more something for experienced LDC users. you probably get better off with the black model and positive display.

Thumbs Up Re: Which CHEAP!!! G as first G?

    Lexxorcist, mholje,

Would you care to expand on why you choose those? Is it software (module) / hardware (case, bracelet), historical significance?

Also I keep seing recs for hbwatches. Is this THE guy/gal to buy from?

Thanks for paying attention to the 'new guy'.

I will research your recs. :)

For me, readability under the hot Caribbean sun is a must. Maybe I should have included that in my OP.

Is it a low contrast issue or a washout issue?

For comparison purposes, my Motorola Q's LCD display with backlite at full blast is about as low contrast under the sun as I can go.
