Any photos? Maybe it's like patina on a bronze watch..

Dawn dish soap and a soft child's tooth brush works well for cleaning grime.

what sort of black smudges? if its oil or ink, hot soapy water or a baby wipe could do the trick. if its colour transferred from your clothing or dirt rubbed into it over time then its prob not going to come out. you can try removing the resin and boiling it which can help but if its too far gone, youre better off just thrashing that set and buying a new set once it finally dies. or better yet, in true G collector fashion, buy another G to wear sparingly as a "good" one ;)

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'll try the dawn and a child's toothbrush to start with.

New bezel from Pacparts is $11.

New strap is more like $35.

The G-7900 Red Rescue is a popular model. If the cleaning doesn’t work out, I agree with the other poster who recommended getting another to keep fresh ($66 from Jomashop), and just letting this one be a beater.

A middle option: there are lots of eBay auctions for these, some with photos that show very clean bezels. Could come out close to the price of a pacparts order once shipped.

I’ve found that a bit of shower gel and a child’s toothbrush works wonders on watches.

Thanks, Pictures aren't that easy for me so that's not going to happen. I will try to clean her and see what happens.
