Picture Comparison between the two negaives - DW-6900RE-1JF vs DW-6900MS-1

I originally bought the DW-6900RE-1JF 'Real Black Red Eye' JDM model some time ago. This watch belongs to Casio's R&B/Hip-Hop/Reggae/ Culture limited edition.

Shortly after the new DW-6900MS-1 'MIRB Red Eye' caught my attention, so decided to source this model as well, and decide which one of the two to keep and which one to let go after seeing both first hand.

The differences between these two models (one released in 2005 another in 2008) are subtle, but significant enough to make a stealth-freak like myself to keep both and appreciate them in a different way

Have a look at few photos below and decide for yourself

6900RE - Real Black Red Eye:

    6900MS - MIRB Red Eye

You can see the difference in color of numerals, red on the left, pink on the right. Also, Casio used a high-contrast type negative LCD on their 2005 model. The numerals on 6900RE are visible from just about every angle.

More details on differences between the two models:

The 6900-RE comes with soft and pliable DW-5600 type strap, not the cheap-feeling standard DW-6900 strap - this is a very nice touch and added bonus, IMO. The standard resin keeper is replaced by three solid S/S metal rings. Surprisingly enough, they keep together and don't slide along the strap.

The caseback graphics on 6900RE show a running ostrich wearing shorts, jandals, sunglasses and sporting long dreadlocks...all in a true reggae style

I actually prefer contrasting silver colored S/S buttons with black resin combo.

    Purple-red EL color on DW-6900RE:

    Blue LE on DW-6900MS:

Which one do I prefer? I lean slightly towards the DW-6900RE Real Black, nice silver-black contrast, better visibility and contrast of numerals, red numerals instead of pink, one of a kind strap keeper, metallic charcoal dial insert, availability of this discontinued model...etc...
However, I'll keep them both, they both have their place and use, IMO.

Hope you found this little review worth of your time spent reading it, thanks

    Nice comparison!

I have the 2008 model and I do not care for the strap at all. I love the case-back too!

The RE model wins in my book!

I'm glad Casio didn't use stock standard DW-6900 strap on 6900RE, the less pliable one with two ridges and dimples

Both of these watches above come with nice straps, the DW-6900MS has a wider single-ridge strap, a real nice touch IMO.

    Thanks mate!

babola ...thanks for this terrific review!

As a relative newcomer to G-Shock collecting, a contribution like yours is a priceless addition to my education of the brand. The wonderful photographs along with the detailed notes and highlights have been fascinating and ever so useful.
My vote goes to the RE, and if available today I would purchase one in a flash. I am rapidly becoming a 6900 series advocate, as it's the one G-Shock model that is large enough to look appropriate on my sizable wrist. In addition I like the unique styling and comfort it offers.

    Cheers...

Greetings and Welcome to the Forum

Here is my GW-6900BC-1JF (with black negative display) which is currently available.

It's solar atomic and the newest generation of the long standing 6900 series.

Below that is the positive display version of the same watch (without atomic) G-6900-1D

    Cheers...

Great run-down Babola! I hadn't known about the 6900RE model. Thanks! This forum rocks, and I learn something great every day!
