    Concerns regarding GR8900A

    Hi All,

I have a couple of concerns regarding my new GR8900A. Appreciate if you could assist:

The strap buckle is stamped with "Casio China" instead of "Casio Japan".
I am also posting a picture of the caseback, which also mentions "Made in China".
Should I be concerned? Are newer G's being manufactured in China and stamped with the China stamp?

Everything else works fine as expected, and the only other glitch I found was that I was unable to get Auto Illuminator to work, even after activating the same in settings (below image). As you can see, the "LT ->" indicator is activated, but the light doesn't turn on when I tilt the watch. What could be amiss?

Also, I had posted in my other thread, but posting here again: I find the resin strap uncomfortable, how can I switch to a nylon or a velcro strap?

    Thanks in advance

My buckle is stamped China and caseback Thailand... (6 years old)
Take off strap. Place curved in small drinking glass. Add hot tap water. Strap will soften and acquire permanent ergonomic shape.

    Re: Concerns regarding GR8900A

Most of the G-Shocks are made in China nowadays. Since there is no flaw at the watch = no problem

    Regarding the auto-illuminator.

It will just work in the dark with solar modules.
    Its to save energy.
Go to a dark place and try again!

Nylon or velcro strap adapters for 16mm>24mm will work as well as several textile straps from Casio for GA-100MC and alike.

Didn't work even in very dimly lit interior conditions (e.g. under a desk where there is very less light)!! Will it work only in pitch-darkness? Or does it get turned on only after approximate sunset time as per the location selected? Does the Power Saver mode interfere with the auto light in any way? ( I have power save mode turned on)

sounds like it might be a case of a stuck ball bearing causing the auto illuminator to not function. i have not suffered this prob b4 but i have read that its a simple fix of knocking the watch on a hard surface to free the ball bearing.

but don't take my word for it. pls do a search for fixes.

It has to be dark, the watch dont cares for sunsets.
It just measures the power from the solar cell as light indicator.
Power save mode is not interfering.

The struck ball sensor might be possible and slight knocking might help. :)

    Re: Concerns regarding GR8900A

    Sorry guys, my bad :silly:

Didn't realize that on a negative display, the indicators were reversed too! So a "blank indicator" (like in the powersaver indicator below) actually meant "activated" and a solid dot (black) on the indicator actually meant "disabled". So while trying to "activate" the autolight, I was actually de-activating it...Facepalm!!!!

    Re: Concerns regarding GR8900A

Hello All, hope y'all are enjoying a great Friday! I'm reopening this thread with some more queries instead of starting a new thread.

    • Will the normal "strap adaptors" designed for 6900/other gshocks fit the GR8900? This is what I am getting on ebay MIL-SHOCK Adapter
    • If I want to fit these straps on my G, will these be a direct fit?
    • Finally, I am interested in a set of bullbars for the 8900, will the GD400's thick bullbars fit the 8900?
    • While talking of the GD, can I also snap the GD400's straps on mine without requiring any significant mods?

The adaptors should fit, I have no idea how they'd look though, I can't recall any pictures of them fitted to an 8900 on here before. The Bullbars likely wont fit, don't know if anyone's tried it, and the GD-400 strap definitely wont, it uses a totally different method of attaching to the case.

So if I am to get it right, the 8900 is good looking in itself, but not really mod-friendly, is it?
