Confused about DST in world time

When I hold down the adjust button in world time mode, it toggles DST on/off. Why? I thought DST was totally automatic.

It is. But only for your atomic watch which receives information about DST (on/off) in your home country. But the watch doesn't have DST information about the different timezones (different changing dates, some countries doesn't have DST). You have to change DST manually.

Hawaii doesn't use DST does it?

If you're in Hawaii I doubt you get the atomic signal so all timezones would need to be switched manually to DST and back when needed.

So DST is only automatic when my watch receives an atomic clock sync? I figured it would be automatic based on world time location and current date.

Automatic only with the radio sync and only on your home time. You have to program each individual city on world time also. Not a big deal only takes a few minutes. Use this site as a reference.

Only automatic if atomic and the signal is received. Building in tables would present problems when DST stuff changes such as it did for the US a few years back.

    That's correct, sir.

No, this would require data about all timezones and all changing dates. This however would require that the watch would need software updates from time to time because DST-settings around the world changes.
