    Confusion About World Time

Ok, this is probably a totally stupid question. But please understand that the extent of my travels are limited. So my knowledge about timezones and daylight savings is confined to the continental U.S.

My G-Shocks are the first watches with world time capability. But I'm confused as to the settings. When it comes to the DST function I was under the impression that the time in other time zones would automatically update as I changed my local time. I'm finding inconsistencies as I scroll thru the other Time Zones.

Please forgive me for my naive question. Again, I understand the difference in the times zones but apparently DST is observed differently and I thought the watch would adjust accordingly.

    Or am I missing something?

BTW, being able to chat with other people around the world is one BIG reason that I like this forum.

In World Time, DST needs to be set manually for each city even if you have an atomic G.

That's correct, and what a pain in the a$$ it is to do - if you're a stickler for those sorts of things, which I am. I had no idea you had to do that for the atomic G. Do you have to do so even for the "home" city?

Yeah, Unfortunately I'm one of those types that likes to have everything working just right.
Even if I don't use it that often.

As for the home city, I can't answer that since they changed the day the DST changes.

I muddled through this problem myself here: https://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=73737

I used greenwichmeantime.com to get them all setup straight

No problem....took me a while to find it myself The other watch I was referring to in the post was a briefly owned PAW-1200.

    Re: Confusion About World Time

I posted all the world times and whether or not they are DST. Search for "Casio world time".. I also devleoped an excel spreadsheet that I'd be happy to send to anyone who wants it. It also list the day that each country (city) goes on or off of DST.

    Cheers,
    Gawain

ps. actually hang on.. In a few minutes I'll post back here with a link to the file that you can download.
