Did I receive Time AND Date or just Time? GWM5610-1

How can I tell on my GWM5610-1 if I received Time AND Date or just Time?

Do the letters "RCVD" appear on the screen?

If so, you received both time and date data.

This is making it sound like you received SOMETHING after you were having some reception problems! If you go to normal timekeeping mode and press the lower right or "D" button, the screen should show the time and date of the most recent reception -- when was it?

Mike, Thanks for highlighting that! I've been staring at that manual too long and was missing it!

I think that happens to all of us!

So IS the watch now showing "RCVD" and/or showing a recent time/date of its "last reception"?

It did!. I've had the watch a few days and had several unsuccessful attempts to sync by various windows. After reading more threads here I found out what direction to point the watch, and got it into an upper floor window and pointed it right at the transmitter (unfortunately not a convenient window either, but as it turns out I think the signal was being blocked by the house next door). Long story short, I got a RCVD thanks to you. It disappeared later in the day, but as I recall that's the way it's supposed to work.

Glad to hear that it's working correctly!

Your're right -- the "RCVD" indicator will turn off when it goes back into "receive mode," either at midnight or if we get too enthusiastic pressing and holding the "D" button to check the time of the last synch. If we press and hold the button for TOO long, the watch goes into "manual receive mode" and clears the indicator.

Now that you know that the watch DOES receive correctly, you can experiment with different windows and other locations around the house, and you may see your reception varying depending on the weather as well.

Hmmm.... I don't think RCVD is supposed to disappear "later in the day" just like that...

Yes, it would disappear if you change the time or date or home city or DST settings.

Otherwise it should only disappear next day when it tries auto reception again and fails (i.e. not before midnight).

Other thing, I've been thinking, is it possible at all for the watch to receive just the time and not the date from the signal? As my guess would be that it either reads the whole information from the signal successfully and then sets date and time, or completely fails and doesn't set anything. (But now looking at the DCF77 specs (the German signal) I can see that there are separate parity bits for the hour, the minute and the date, so in theory it should be possible to receive the time only (but not the date), only I am not sure whether the watch would set anything in such case...)
