Smile Do you think Frogman's are over rated?

    Hi Guys -

A great thought that AtomicSolar has told me that many members think Frogman's are over rated so I started this thread with him in mind.

    What do you think?

Personally, I love Frogman's because they are big, colourful, have an ISO rating, and the word Frogman sounds cool.

I have a friend here in Cairns and he doesn't like them. He's a Rip Curl watch liker:-X

I'm not sure about the technical side and think not many would be, but my Frogman's serve me well and continue to do so:gold

    Here's a few of mine:-D

Over rated, no - Over priced, yes. I think Frog's are great, and obviously others do as well, hence the high prices one has to pay for them these days.

    That's a good point Mike..

The TC's could be had for around $150 on EBay..

Do you think that's over priced?

I think it's way below retail price.

I have not a doubt in my mind that most G-shock watches are overpriced for what they are; however, like everything, they are priced according to what the market will bear and not according to what they're actually worth. Casio spends a lot of money with regards to product placement with its G-shocks, so it's no surprise it's their more expensive watch. If enough people would buy them at $1000 a piece, that is how much they would cost.

The same thing occurs with other items with pop culture status.

As a recent G-Shock fan, I still think the Frogman craze will fade away eventually, I have noticed collectors selling away theirs after owning/appreciating them for a while, so they're just either recouping their losses or profiting from this investment, making us to believe that Frogmans are very rare and sought after, when they're nothing but resin and steel in striking colours, BUT I must emphasize that more luxurious brands like Patek/Rolex are much much more overrated than G-Shock Frogmans, but this overrated thingy does apply to Frogmans to a certain degree. On the other hand, Seiko watches are rather underrated, don't you think?

Hmm, this actually sounds like it might be a decent discussion.

I like how you try to personally attack me though, Ozzie, and misspelling my username (as usual when you disagree with "certain" people) is a nice touch. You can't really be over 30 now, can you?

Re: Do you think Frogman's are over rated? (AmoicSolar in mind)

I have a couple of points to make about Frogmen, I don't think everyone is going to agree with me and that's fine, but as long as the thread is here, I'll speak my piece.

Preface: I'm a diver, and I don't own one of these things... yet.

    1. I think the new Frogman models are great, solar power is a great feature for a watch whos water resistance is critical. Less battery replacement, less possibility of failure.

    2. ISO depth rating is cool, but superfluous.

    3. Those Frogmen with databank like features are awsome.

    4. I wish non-special editions were available. I don't want a TC or ICERC Frogman. I want a GW-200-2, is that so hard?

    5. These things are not easy to get in the US for some reason. Prices fluctuate wildly from well over to slightly under retail, and most retailers don't carry them.

    6. Discontinued Frogmen fetch outrageous prices on eBay. It's too much.

    7. The MR-G Frogman is by far the coolest, but needs tough solar, and a re-issue.

In conclusion: Overrated? No. Overpriced? Usually.

Relax, he's trying to disguss the issue, not attack you. He didn't mention anything about your character. He's trying to find out why you, and other people, think that the Frogman is over rated.

Personally I'm curious to hear other people's thoughts on the matter as well. So, please leave your ego at home and just disguss the watch. Please?
