Does this casio appeal to you? Would you buy/own/wear this watch?

Saw this in a casio AD. it’s a casio mtd-1086, 10bar, mineral glass, ss case, rotating bezel, screwback...

but the most appealing feature is that it has a “sort-of” sweeping seconds hand (it’s a quartz, with sr920w battery) i am not too familiar with second hand sweeps but my guess it’s 180bpm?

Size is 51x45x11. Personally, i just dont like the look of the sub dials...

so wus gurus, would you buy this watch, does it have appeal to you? Casio dealer priced it at $70

Tough question......looks good at first glance, but then I see the 3 main hands are all too short. And it is not a chrono, it is day-date-24H.

    $70 is a fair price.

Yeah the subdials made the face look busy 😞 there’s the mtd-1087 exactly the same case and style and it has a day/date window instead of the dials BUT it does not have sweeping seconds. Oh casio...

I kind of like it. Would be better on a stainless steel bracelet.

I it does appear to be 180 bpm, or 10,800 bph. I searched up some YouTube videos of it. This one shows the “smooth” seconds reasonably well: https://youtu.be/5eHnRkq1xBw

I first found out about these from the “New Products” page at casio-intl.com, and it was really exciting, but I was kind of let down by what I saw in the YouTube videos.

I’m just going off how it looked to me in a video, but I think the 3 bps (apparently?) motion looks “panicky” rather than smooth. I’ve seen the 2 bps motion of the Mondaine Stop2Go in person, and it’s mesmerizing. It’s also a $500 quartz watch, presumably with a very firm, precise seconds motion.

The bezel of the MTD-1086 is very neat. Somebody said “Seiko stopped making Monsters so now Casio is making them.” The MTD-1087 has the same bezel and a nicer face, with the big day-of-week at 12. Imitation chronograph subdials aren’t cool. I think if I were to buy one of the two, it would be the 1087.

The end result of my survey was to put the orange-and-gray MTD-1080 on my list. Tons of character and off-beat vintage appeal. And a cheap one popped up within a couple of days, so I do have a Casio diver on the way, just not the one with the fancy smooth seconds.

Worth noting: the bracelet version of the MTD-1086 (and presumably other present MTDs) uses formed links all around. Seeing this steered me toward the resin strap version. Hopefully the lug width is 20mm or 22mm, so you can install a nicer 3rd party bracelet or one from an Invicta or something ;D

Absolutely I would wear that! Thanks to what seems to be the 4th generation Monster, it looks like Seiko messed up a good thing.

Yep, my initial thoughts was The bezel kinda makes it look like the seiko monster... i also saw the bracelet version and its $20 more than the resin but that bracelet is fugly imho. I think it has 22mm lug width.

It's too big for me but that aside if you OK with 3 subdials instead of day/date window it reasonably good watch.
These Miyotas keep good time, reliable and over all look proper.
There is nothing to complain on technical side. No comment on appearance it is personal.
Yes i would of but likely my choice will be proper day/date window.
That said i do have Casio in such subdial arrangement.
    It should be special!

For $70 I’d prolly have the dealer’s hand off.
