Don't know what Caasio calls it, but I call it crap

The IP coating quality on my GMW-B5000 purchased less than five months ago is completely substandard. Just from wearing it in the office where the back of the band touches the table top, there are already completely shiny silver spots where black coating used to be.

In contrast, the coated black bits of the combo strap on my GW-5000 don't look even remotely bad after years of use in the very same setting.

I must say that I'm pretty disappointed in the band's quality.

The IP coating lasts differently on different materials.

That's disappointing, but not surprising given it's not a DLC type coat (which I assume would drive up the price).

Also, office tables in particular are really bad for watches - a lot are made of composite materials which result in lots is scratches. I always take my watches off when I work on something like that.

Think of it as a sign of a "hard working guy/gal" or "patina" or you could get the entire case and bracelet "sandblasted" somewhere here there's a photo, it looked very nice!

Like Nk says, I have found that office desks are really hard on watches - not as hard as a stone wall but that’s another story.

Desk rash. Yep. Casio should have gone DLC. DLC isn't even that expensive to manufactures. Stainless is best since these polish right out.

Or titanium, which can be brushed out as well.
Personally I'm not that bothered with a little wear on the underside, but yes DLC would've been nice.

I agree it would be great to have DLC on that watch. But let's face it - Casio reserves DLC coating for its highest level of watches. Sure, the Porter edition of the GMW-B5000 has it - and its retail was $1,200. The case back of the GW-5000 has it. The bezels on some MR-G and Oceanus models have it. My MR-G has it on the case, bezel, and band, but it was a very expensive watch.

If it was that cheap and easy to apply, you'd think Casio would put it on a lot more watches. But regardless, what we've seen from Casio suggests that they are very unlikely to do a full DLC watch on anything costing less than $1,000.
