Doubling up - what and why?

Does anyone here purchase two of the same model G-Shock or just Casio in general, in the same colour? For reasons like spare parts, having a fresh one in storage..

Which would you double up on, and why?

GW-M5610-1ER. One to remain stock. The other for modding along with the -1BJF. The -ve display is awaiting hydro-mod.

I would love to have a variant of the Frogman, Mudmaster or Gravitymasters that I have

Actually, tell a lie: I have a GMW5600 and GMW5610 (almost the same watch). One for modding with aftermarket bezel and bracelet and one for the wife.

I've gone as far as same model, different colorways, but not identical.

I have two G-7700s, because as you said, I want a backup if they become hard to find and something happens to mine.

If you’re looking for a specific feature, like the G-7700’s flexibility two display one or two additional time zones, nicely labeled, it makes sense to have a backup. I don’t know if they’re still making these, or if the stock is just still not sold. The G-7700 is a 2007 design. It’s the high-water mark of what I would consider “classic” digital watch features, before the move to doing everything with solar/atomic. A *better* stopwatch. A *better* countdown timer. Three time zones at once. Day of year. Days remaining in year. Week-number (with three different ways of computing week number, to suit different conventions). It even has configurable LCD contrast (choose from seven levels). All that at nice neutral size: 46mm across.

I can also imagine stockpiling a couple of GW-M530s. They have seriously big, friendly digits, as well as the solar/atomic combo.

They’re cheap, I could wind up with a spare for the right price.

I don't often mention it, but I have a second GW-5000 that I bought perhaps a year after getting my first one. I bought the second one maybe in 2014. It still has its tag on it, and it's pretty much mint. The GW-5000 is my favorite G-Shock, and at the time, I wanted a spare in case I somehow destroyed it. That said, 6 years of owning my first one has made me realize that the likelihood of breaking the GW-5000 is very, very low. My first 5000 just needs a resin swap to look fresh again. I don't think I'll pick up doubles for any other watch in the future.

haha I also had a backup GW-5000. I bought it just in case the first one imploded, or suffered a catastrophic failure after getting rinsed off in the sink, or had its DLC case break right in half after being dropped onto a carpeted floor. Since none of those catastrophes happened , after a year or so I sold my "old" GW5K, and began wearing the new one.

That wasn't my only backup. I have a backup of the DW-5600BB, just because, and one of the DW-5600E. (one is signed by Kikuo Ibe and I don't wear it). I think those are the only backups I have at the moment. I don't plan on getting backups of others - unless the mood strikes me.
