The DW-290,is this a red headed stepchild

in my never ending quest in obtaining a vintage DW-340 300M I noticed what seems like its contempory replacement, the DW-290.in several of the local Walmarts this model is usually placed obscurly in a spinner at the very bottom under a cast of generic looking nerd type databanks and the such, and usually has a thin coating of dust indicating these are not exactly smokin out the door.I collect G's but this particular model caught my eye and since it had a nice size to it along with pretty much basic/classic features I swooped on it for 32 bones.seems like a good deal,I have seen these online for as low as 24.00.the DW-290 seems like the successor to the Old School HD and 340 line's but why no Respect or is it pretty much a sleeper.

The DW290 is indeed a sort of honorary G-Shock.

    Ive bought one last week.
    Its larger then a 5600.
It almost the same module as the DW-6800.
For its apperance its much like one of the old school Gs.
So its something like a "poor mans G".
Or just a nice reference to the high tide of digital watches.

I have seen those, and considered them. However, I just do not seem to appreciate the slightly hexagonal shape. Enjoy yours!

    hi d2mac,

Any chance of wrist pic? (What is your wrist size).
A comparison pic with a DW5600 would also be great

I'm curious, The display looks identical to my DW8300.
    And it's still a 200M resistant watch.
Is the case the only thing keeping it from being a G Shock?

I suspect it's partly the case not having enough protection, but also the buttons aren't protected. Nice watch though, I've been tempted a few times.

OK, some comparsion shots of the DW-290 vs. DW-5600E

The housing of the DW-290 is hard plastic (resin) and is not protected by a flexible bezel.
The strap is much thinner then on a G.
