    Finally acquire the forums favourite.

I have always liked the GW-5000 but already owning a GW-M5600 on the composite strap, could never justify to myself paying over £200 for the GW-5000.

However, I saw this one for sale in Japan and managed to get it for just over a hundred pounds.

Somebody had bought it at the Yodobashi store on the 11th of May and immediately put it up for sale and I bought it at the end of May.

It came in a quite attractive box and tin, one I have not seen before and I wonder if this is a new ongoing style for Casio.

And of course the little icon itself.

So I am really pleased to have finally scratched this itch even though I now have yet another G I don't really need!

    Congrats!!
That box is really cool indeed, mine came in a regular black box. Hope you enjoy the watch as much as I do, there’s never too much squares ;)

I wish I had known how much I would like my own GW-5000, as I would have bought it years earlier and NOT bought many other watches which although unique and well-made, don't please me nearly as much.

Again, need has nothing to do with it.

    Haha, THIS!
Let's be honest, do we really "need" watches anymore?
For most of us the answer is probably "not really".
We wear/collect them because we want to. If we lived soley based on needs, everybody would be walking around with potato sacks for pants

It is another hobby, there is no need to justify it. Just do/collect what makes you happy, man!

That said, the GW5000 is indeed a special piece, you get to savour its distinguishing features - robustness, steel case, DLC case back and sublime comfort - over time. Wear it well.

It wasn't an attempt to justify anything. I was referring to the OP using the word "need" and how it's not about needs, but more about wants.
I'm in total agreement with you... although, what makes me happy doesn't necessarily make my wife happy

Nice grab, and a great price too! That’s a cool little tin for sure; thanks for sharing photos. Wear it in good health!

Anybody any idea what the Japanese symbols stand for on the box and tin?

It’s their new way of calling years with their new emperor (?) 2019 is year 1 of “令和”. It seems whenever there’s a new emperor, they use a dedicated name chosen by that emperor and restart the count of years, while at the same time keep the 20xx counting in parallel.
