First thoughts on the GW-9000 Mudman

    Folks,
I went to my local Penny's and was going to reserve my 2 Muddies for the sale coming up.But being the type to see what luck brought me, I had the person scan the item first. The watches both said $150 on the tag but rung up as being $60. Since the person that rung it up was the Jewelery Manager , he stated that even though it was mispriced he had to give it to me at that price. On top of that I got the discounts because there was a Penny's sale today also (not the good sale) and I walked out of the store with 2 GW-9000 atomic solar G-Shock Mudmen for a total of $84 ($42 each)

Now for the review, I have worn it for 6 hours and I can say I like the style and the watch. It does however feel a bit cheap and plasticy like. I guess I am used to the original version which was more rugged and heavier. Also the G-9000 feels more heavier too.

    Pro's
stylish, functional and feels great on the wrist.
Great set of features on the watch
double buckle both gives the wearer a more comfortable watch and reduces stress on the strap

    Cons

sort of cheap and light feeling. (but alas this is only a noticeable thing to us first generation Mudman owners )

And strap is integrated into the watch resulting in not being able to use the G-Shock adapters( if I am wrong then please let me know on this) and being stuck with that strap

    Possible future cons:
Like the first generation Mudman and its off shoots the Gaussman and Codename, the buttons are covered with the bezel keeping out mud and grim. The flip side of this is that those button covers will wear away and break forcing the owner to buy a new bezel down the line.

    Verdict:

All and all a nice watch with great features that even for the $150 off sale JCP would offer it is still a great deal. At the sale price that they are selling them for Tuesday that is even better.

This could easily be somebody's favorite watch. As of now it is my second most favorite G-Shock (my favorite is the GW-400 which has thermo, moonphase, solar and atomic)

    Cheers

    Leon

Congrats on the super deal! Wish that would happen to me sometime. I'm sure you'll enjoy the muddies. I'm totally jealous!

    Wow!

    What an incredible deal!

I'm picking mine up on Tuesday, and will be interested to see if I feel the same way.

    PS
I hope I can switch out the bezel and band, but sounds like I won't be able to... Maybe switch from a G-9000MC in green camo...

    Thanks.

On the changing of the bezels from the G-9000 and GW-9000, I don't think it will work because they are different watches

    Wow Leon,

$84.- for two GW-9000. No wonder you think it feels cheap. I didn't dare to think that, because I paid about double for just one! I think you wrote a nice review. I forgot you had a GW-400. Cool Wear your muddy in good health!

    Cheers,

I love my solar muddy...I picked the solar version because I have a non-solar Gulfman.

That was some luck with the purchase...congrats...maybe we should all contribute and send you out for lottery tickets for us.
