G-Shock bezels and bands get shinny

I have a G-Shock DW-002 that has original bezel and bands. My question is why do they get a shinny gloss on them? Is it because of its age?

G-Shock resin becoming shiny is perhaps 5% age, 5% body oils, soaps, and other chemicals, and 90% wear and friction.

If you're actually wearing your G-Shock (as opposed to parking it on a shelf) it's going to rub against all sorts of things in the course of a day: shirt sleeves, coat sleeves, and pants are probably the most common, along with towels if you wear it in the shower, sheets and blankets if you wear it to bed, and so on.

Older G's have probably rubbed against more objects in the course of their lifespan, and will in general be shinier than a newer model, but a 10 year old "new in box" watch should still have the same matte finish it had when it left the factory.

I've seen a few threads where people have discussed using a pencil eraser or melamine foam (aka "Magic Eraser") to gently rub shiny resin to bring it back to a matte finish.

acetone is great for making it look matte again. Can take the paint off the letters though, so don't rub it in--just wipe gently with a cloth soaked in it.

The matte finish is nice but I also love my dw6900-ms1 that's developed some wear and shininess. Like worn in jeans.
