It's a countdown for the seconds.

The left dial counts seconds 1-5, the middle dial counts seconds 6-10, and the right dial counts 10 second increments.

Thank you for asking the question. Though they appeared to be some sort of redundant seconds counter, I had not quiet figured out how they worked myself.

So, would you say that they fill any functional purpose? It appears to me that the circles on the GW-6900 indicate alarms & solar charge and hence could be useful. But, do you ever have a look at the circles of the DW-6900 in order to get some information or are they purely decoration? Dummy blinkenlights, sort of.

I think they serve no functional purpose, but maybe some others can comment.

Maybe not that functional, but they are really a feature that Casio has had on a lot of their digital watches since day one. Not literally the 3 eyes, but some sort of area/window with a seconds countdown or indeed count up!

If you go the gw6900 solar atomic route, only one eye counts the seconds, the other two serves as indicators (battery, power save, alarm, mute, sig etc)

I think the DW-6900's are awesome, they're my most consistently worn G's out of my collection. I don't think they're dated unless you have a desperate need for multiple alarms and/or world time.
