G-Shock LCD & Solar Panel problems

Has anybody encountered any problems with G-Shock LCD & Solar Panel (for tough solar Gs)?

I have a G-2800 which has been sent in for service the 3rd time, with problems relating to the solar cell CTL1616.However,the distributor technician claimed that my G-2800 Solar panel is giving problem as well. They also claimed that my LCD was spoilt (which was a lie anyway,as my G-2800 was in working condition when I sent it in).O| O|

It's nearly 3 months since my G-2800 was sent in for service.Right now, they are asking me to pay for the solar panel & LCD,which I believe is BS.

If anybody has ever encountered a problem with their G's LCD or solar panel,I would really love to hear it.

    Thank you for your time.

    Cheers,
    MountainMike

Re: G-Shock LCD & Solar Panel problems

    Hi Mike -

    I have once.

It was a GW-300 coffee model which apparantly had the wrong battery or something in it.

Don't know much about it, except Sjors accepted it and I believe rectified the problem. It wouldn't charge.

Apart from that, all my solars work, charge, and hold a charge perfectly.

Bad luck about your 2300. May be cheaper and safer to get a new G and hang the repair expense

Hope it works out for you either way

Unhappy Re: G-Shock LCD & Solar Panel problems

    Hi Mike,

Too bad to hear about the G-2800 story. I can only imagine the battery was faulty. I recently read here that Casio maild someone here that the new CLT1616 batteries were improved (well, you have of course notheng about that information). I have had some LCD problems with an old DW-5300, but somehow I managed to solve it with some gentle pushes on the display here and there... For your G-2800 I suspect the service man wasn't too good, but that's hard to prove. Hearing all those problems I can only second Ozzies statement to look out for another G-Shock. Maybe a G-2300 will be better for you (Those have the riliable MLT2016 battery).

    Cheers,

    Sjors

    P.S.

I just got a PM from Master of G. He is now also bitten by the Mountainbike virus. He ordered himself a very nice ride!

Re: G-Shock LCD & Solar Panel problems

Many thanks for your thoughts guys. Please bear with me here.

I believed Casio should have fixed the CTL1616 problem.

My main concern is with the way the distributor handle my watch repair. My G-2800 has never given me any problem except for the CTL1616 battery going haywire from time to time.

When I sent my G-2800 for service, everything was working. The LCD was functioning flawlessly.I just sent it in so that they could have the CTL1616 battery replaced again. And also to have it pressure-tested,cause I have encountered fogging issues while riding up a mountain.O|

All this show how incapable the distributor is.They offered to change the CTL1616 battery for free but dare not guarantee the same problem wouldn't persist. Then, they made a huge mistake of offering me a replacement watch of lower values than my G-2800 at a ridiculously high price!O| My G-2800 is my 1st G,so it holds a lot of sentimental value for me.

When I insisted to have my G-2800 CTL1616 replaced & pressure tested, they claimed that the 2800 LCD & Solar-panel were giving problems as well... Which I said to them are BullS**t... I had no choice but to contact Casio directly. It was only then they(distributors) agreed to solve this issue.Casio Japan had since then mailed them a modified battery.

Here is the e-mail from Casio Japan:

Re: G-Shock LCD & Solar Panel problems

    Hello MountainMike,
Disappointed to hear about your experience It's a shame that Casio dropped the ball with the ctl1616.

My first g-shock is my g2310, so I have nothing but good to say. I can however understand your frustration and disappointment with with your first g-shock. I would make anyone mad.

I think Casio should recall this model. It's about time they admitted some liability rather than tried their pot luck. Sometimes it's better to sacrafice a short term bottom line for a long term one. This way they can count on sales further down the line.

Thanks for sharing Mike. Incompetant serivice centers representing Casio is unfortunately something thats not new.

TELL them you would like a new watch.

That's simply ridiculous buying a solar watch which would have to be a major feature, and it is faulty

    DEMAND a new watch

Re: G-Shock LCD & Solar Panel problems

    Hi Guys!

Many thanks for all your supports.

I sincerely believe that it is not Casio's fault. The problem lies with the distributor's attitude towards honouring a warranty issue.First time,I sent in my watch,it was under warranty. They changed the defective CTL1616 and put in a new washer. After 2 months or so of flawless performance, the same problem occured (charge-soon alert).O| I was in the UK for my studies at the time,so it was unjustifiable to mail my G all the way back to Malaysia for service.Once I was back here,I sent it in for another service. The person in-charge said he would try to have my watch replaced with a new one since this was the second time I sent it in.However,in the end,he was unable to do so (due to some corporate BullS**t that he had to endure,I believe). The company changed my CTL1616 Free of Charge for the second time.

After the second service, the same problem persisted, however, this time at least the telememo entries remained intact, and my G showed accurate time once it recovered from the charge-soon alert. However,I had another issue. As mentioned earlier,my G fogged up a few times when the weather was cool. I was really pissed as this should not occur to a G!O|

I contacted the person in-charge.He asked me to send it in so that they could change the CTL1616 & fix the fogging issue. Now,bear with me.This is the person that I have dealt with from the beginning. He was a great person to deal with.He suggested a new watch, trading in my G-2800 as a show of goodwill.Unfortunately, his colleague (sales team) offered me models of lower value at ridiculous high price. They then offered me a MI-3 MTG911 watch at 13% discount of the retail price, when in reality,I could have gotten my G-2800 back, and get myself, say a new Mudman and still have money to spare.MTG-911 retails for RM799, I was to pay RM690 for trading in my watch which retailed for RM399!O| After this,he informed me that he has "quit" his job.

Here is a fraction of the e-mail message:

The retail price is RM799. The watch is very very new in the market
    here but
we would like to offer exclusively for you only at RM690. Payment
    method,
you can bank into our account and fax us the bank-in slip.

I was informed it is a China edition model. You're right too as it has
    the
MI3 logo engraved on the back cover.

Anyway, I'd like to inform you that this is my last day of work here.
    Please
liaise with my colleague Ms. Vivian for the
    payment
and collection of your new watch.

    Thanks and regards,
    Wai

Since I couldn't justify paying so much money for a trade-in,I insisted on having my G-2800's CTL1616 battery replaced, which they had offered to do so in the first place for FREE.However, they changed their mind, and claimed that my G-2800 Solar Panel & LCD are spoiled as well.Which is freaking ridiculous.O| As I was fed-up with the way she handled it,I took the issue up to Casio Japan. However, the superior was quick to take over and pleaded that I gave them one last chance to fix this.In short,Casio did not know about the other issues regarding the so-called spoiled LCD & Solar Panel.I agreed as I do not want to make a big issue out of this.

Here's the message from the superior.

    Dear Mike,

I would like to apologise to you on behalf of the organization. I do
understand your frustation bout the amount of the problems that you had
    to
go through for such a minor problem in your watch.

However, since you had insistly lodging your complains to the revelant
authority. we have no choice but to comply. However, if you feel that
    we
deserve a last chance to let us handle your problems, please do let me
    know.

But before you let me handle your case, please take note that your
    problems
will also being referred to the manufacturer as your problem would be
thoroughly investigated since your watch involves technically.
    Therefore, i
would like you to be a little bit more patient as i cannot confirm to
    you
when the manufacturer will reply to us. Rest assured that we will
    update to
you constantly on your watches status.

All this is possible if you want us to handle without the relevant
authorities. Should you have any further queries, please do not
    hesitate to
    inform us.

    Thank you.

    With regards
    Martin.H.C.Ng

Right now,I am seriously doubting whether they did change my CTL1616 battery in the first place.I have given them until next Tuesday to have my watch sent back to me,in which failure to do so,I would take this up to Casio Japan and the relevant authorities.Seriously, this company has practically ruined Casio's image. O|

I'm doing all this because I felt that we, as proud G-Shocks owners, should never expect anything other than the best service.Casio is arguably one of the most reliable watch brands, and to have all this happening because of the incompetant distributor is really a shame.

I have attached the repair bills from the 1st & 2nd service here as well.

Thank you guys for taking the time to go through all this.

    Cheers,
    MountainMike
