    G-shock nick names...

I collect Seiko watches, and have recently started accumulating G-shocks as well. I like the G-shocks because they are not terribly expensive (at least most of them aren't) and they're of course--without question--the toughest watches on the planet. I like being able to bang a watch around without worrying about harming its value or its reliability...

Seiko automatic watches--the dive watches in particular--have from time to time received nick names which have stuck. Seiko collectors know what a Sumo is... and a Samurai... and a Tuna... and a Monster (black or orange or red or blue)... and a Black Knight--to name only a few...

And of course Casio gives names to many of their watches (Frogman, Mudman, etc.)... and we know those models by those names.

Not all G-shocks will lend themselves right away to an endearing nick name, but many (I think) will. Some models are truly unique, but they still don't have a company sanctioned name which people know them by (we know them only by their model numbers).

I recently bought an MTG960DA-2V. It's a metal G-shock with blue trimmings and a blue negative display (which I have to admit took a bit of getting used to). My 7 year old son sort of fell in love with the watch and it seems it reminds him of R2D2 (he's a big Star Wars fan)... so I guess we'll be calling this one R2D2 around here...

All for what it's worth, or course...

    Dan

700... I can't get the page to load. But thanks for the info. :)

Yeah, "Stormtrooper" would be a great name for the white G-shock.
