    G-Shock problem (GW500A-1V)

I need some input on a problem I am having with my Atomic Solar G (GW500A-1V). For some reason, no matter how much time I spend in the sun with it, the power meter stays at the M. It never gets charged up enough to get to the H. Has anyone else had this problem??? I don't have any of the boxes or paperwork, and bought it when I used to live in N.J. So, is there anything I can do to fix this, or am I stuck with a half charged G? It is not a huge problem, since the watch still holds a charge for a good amount of time before it needs a charging. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks:) J.J.

My normal response to charging problems tends to be 'relax, it'll be fine', but I always fear the worst with the GW-500 and GW-300.

These models did have a significant number of problems, so there may not be anything you can do about it. Apart from the standard advice of turning off auto EL, that is.

As you know, the watch will work perfectly well on 'M', so I can only suggest you enjoy the watch as it is, but prepare for the possibility of it not lasting as long as some other models. If you start to get the 'Recover' message on a regular basis, it may be time to consider replacing it.

    Sorry about that...

Thanks a bunch for the info tribe. I figured it was something I was just going to have to live with. No big deal though, it still works fine!!! It's a great watch and puts up with everything that I dish out to it! Just curious, I was looking to get a new GW5600J-1. Have you heard of anyone having any problems with these?

Off Topic post Re: G-Shock problem (GW500A-1V)

sspartan is right - no problem with the GW-5600.

The only models with significant problems are those mentioned, plus those with the module in the G-5600 (module 2597). They are all relatively old models (in the quickly-changing G-Shock world) and more recent models seem to be fine.

It is possible that it is something as simple as a problem with the battery. I would investigate replacing the battery and see if that helps.

kid-a, I have the exact same model as you and have the same issue. It show midway charged! and no matter how long its left in sunlight(in direct) it never seems to fully charge. May be it is fully charged but doesnt show it on the meter? who knows. I still wear it though with no problems.

    Re: G-Shock problem (GW500A-1V)

I seem to always run into these questions!

Yes, as tribe said, the GW300s and gW500s, as well as the G5600s were the models with 'problems'. The problem is either the module itself, or the battery. Not every single one of these were bad though. I've had two of each and never noticed a single problem. As yours seems to be working fine, I'd think your battery is just slowly losing capacity (which is actually normal to a degree).

How old is your watch? How long has it been 'stuck at M'?

I would just wear it until the battery no longer holds a charge. You will probably find this to be a while (many years). Once it actually 'dies' you could look at replacing the battery (around $6) if you want to keep it in service. Or, you could sell it for parts, and just buy a new model.
