A G-Shock that sells for more than its weight in gold?

Is Casio sales and marketing group sniffing glue?! The watch costs more than its weight in solid gold bullion....unreal!

    $7400 ?!?!?!

Well, at least they finally added a 12-hour subdial. Maybe that is worth the extra $4500 over a regular MR-G.
"When the shadow of the sash appeared in the curtains it was between seven and eight o'clock and then I was in time again, hearing the watch. It was Grandfather's and when Father gave it to me he said I give you the mausoleum of all hope and desire.... I give it to you not that you may remember time, but that you might forget it now and then for a moment and not spend all your breath trying to conquer it."

I've developed an impression over the past few months, as a newbie researching G-Shocks, that Casio is trying to reposition itself (I won't go into details in this thread - another perhaps). I have seen first hand where all it takes is one high profile, highly paid, individual to spend this kind of money on a watch (like dropping a quarter in that gumball machine that has the eggs with the little prizes in it) then be seen wearing it...

... they are seen wearing it at well publicized events covered by the media...

... it will be seen on their wrists during a photo shoot...

... it winds up on the cover of a magazine...

... it is seen on a high profile attendee, paid to attend, at Burning Man or Coachella

    ... their peers follow...

... suddenly, Casio's high end, crazy expensive (to us), watches are...

    ..."Legit" ...

... and objects of desire for those who are influenced by popular culture and want to be part of it (that's the entire "First World", btw).

"Don't hate the playa, hate the game."

    I'm just sayin'.

A man wearing a watch, outside of purely social functions (where, strictly speaking, a watch is not supposed to be worn), makes it clear to everyone in his purview that they are in the presence of a man who considers his time something of value, not something to be wasted.

A man wearing an ostentatiously expensive watch makes it clear to everyone in his purview that they are in the presence of a man who considers little.

Wow!! A $7400 Gshock with a 24 minute stopwatch. No thanks. I need a minimum of 12 hour stopwatch.
Casio needs to come back to the ground with their exorbitant pricing. This is getting ridiculous.

    • Japan's proud advanced technologies and traditional technical skills merge in the MRG-G2000HT. Its ability to receive standard time radio waves, GPS satellite signals and Bluetooth® transmissions enables it to acquire accurate time information in any location on Earth under virtually any conditions. Metal exterior surfaces are finished with a traditional kasumi-tsuchime hammering technique. And Japan Blue indigo, a representative colour in Japanese traditional craftsmanship, is applied with blue DLC coating. The true staying power of traditional beauty is embodied in this 500-piece numbered limited edition model of MR-G, the flagship series in the G-SHOCK line.

I like my GShocks but most of them are below $500 price and have 24 hour stopwatches. They can hammer all they want to make this watch exquisite. It is not on par with other watches in that price range. You can repair an automatic in20-25 years but these movements will be obsolete and then not worth the$7400 price.
