G-Shock with tide & yacht timer and also atomic & solar???

I'm the very happy owner of a GW-9200. It's my daily watch after my titanium Speedmaster (which did cost me about 15x as much) broke down for the third time.... It's probably me, but still.

Now I'm looking for a G which has at least the tide funcion and a yacht timer. The G-7900 is an option.
But I'm now "spoiled" with the solar and atomic time keeping of my GW-9200 and would prefer to have that included as well.

I did find the GW-7900CD-9ER which according to the Casio UK website has it all, but I find it strange that the other watches in the GW-7900 series are lacking the yacht timer. Or am I missing something?

Does anyone have any other suggestions in the G-Shock line?

Both Casios below are JDM, but available shipped world-wide.

Since I race one-designs, a CDT is important to me as well....as long as it counts down from 10 minutes, it qualifies as a starting-line yacht timer to me.

Check out the G-Shock Gulfman GW-9110. It has tides, moon-phase, atomic, solar and a CDT.

I use this version of the Casio Protrek model PRW-S2500MG which is ABC , has tides, moon-phase, is solar/atomic and has the extra sapphire crystal and carbon fiber band and comes with a mini-Maglite flashlight:

Also my GWX8900 has solar/atomic, tides and a CDT. I don't sail with it because of the negative display, but there is a positive version.

I spend a pot of time on yachts.

In my experience there is no G-Shock that has a loud enough alarm to be used as a racing timer. The older ones are usually louder but the Solar ones are even quieter.

What is really good is the Flash Alert on the older G-Shocks which is superb for night sailing. So set a course to tack every 10 minutes and even though you won't hear the beeper, you won't miss the flash alert and it will even knock out your night vision for a short while. However, you will probably have a cabin full of instruments to do the same thing.

Also the display digits are pretty small on G-Shocks but often bigger on Casios.

The tide functions are useless if you need to know tide times. The calculations appear to be sound once set up, but the display is broken down into 4 segments which represent 1.5 hours. So if you are happy to know the tide to within 1.5 hours then G-Shocks are the fellas. There is no spring/neap indication other that the too small to see clearly, lunar indicator which has a resolution of about 3.5 days! Again useless as a tide watch unfortunately.

Overall, I would get a cheap yacht watch from any chandlers that fits your purpose.

Casio just don't understand tides or the needs of sailing but perhaps they will one day.

The ProTreks have louder timers and alarms than the G-Shocks.

That depends on the model. The PRG-240 for instance has - hands down - the lowest, piss-poor alarm I have heard to date on any Casio.

    cheers

P.S. the GW-M850 is atomic/solar and has a ralley timer. I honestly don't know exactly what it does but maybe its function is similar to a yacht timer....

Thanks all for the fast responses.
The watch is going to be used for windsurfing. The tide info doesn't need to be spot on, just has to give me an idea where the tide is going.
And a "simple" CDT won't be sufficient, as I need an audible signal every minute during the countdown. A lot of the guys use something like this during contests. But it's just to ugly for me.....

Currently Casio is not making any Gs with a yacht timer but they do offer a non G with one but its not solar/atomic. I'm doing everything I can to keep my G2800 going because of this!

And the old G-Shock Raysman has a yacht timer too and IS solar powered but due to age the plastic bezels are fragile, many of them cracking and some falling apart, I'm afraid to take any of my 3 Raysman sailing for fear of disintegration at sea!

On the left is a old but new 9350 Raysman, on the right new GW-M850

Re: G-Shock with tide & yacht timer and also atomic & solar???

Best choice would probably be the GWX-8900 - it doesn't have a yacht timer but it has a repeat function on the countdown which can be set to repeat up to 10 times - so you could set 1 min and then let it repeat - this way it'll emit a short beep every minute and a longer one at the end.
If I remember correctly the last solar/atomic G-Shock with tide feature and yacht timer was the GW-400 Silencer which sadly is discontinued - I was always hoping for an updated Multband 6 version but it doesn't look like it's gonna happen.
(checked the manual and indeed the GW-400 had all the required features)

    cheers, Sedi
