    G-shock tin cans

    Hi!
Which tin-cans are "original" in ga-100? I've seen rounded and hexagonal as well. Is there any difference?

ive seen them come in the standard cardboard box without a tin like the 6900s. theres no rhyme or reason, if youre looking at authenticating a watch, look at the watch, not the box

Original? No way to know. Doesn’t matter anyhow. No real difference.

May have to do with the geographic market the version was originally manufactured for. But stock ends up all over the world randomly, with EMS, FedEx, DHL shipping from everywhere. Just got a G-Shock from Istanbul shipped to me recently, as I could not find one anywhere else. Also get Gs from Asia all the time.

Casio’s packaging strategy completely baffles me too. But based on experience, online purchases of gshocks would almost always be in a box only with no tin, brick and mortar stores would have box and tins but then again, sometimes personnel just pick out random boxes and tins from storage and chuck the watch inside. Happened to me when i purchased my nos g7800, it took 2 days for the store personnel to find the correct box and manuals for the watch, she offered me a seiko box for it at first lol.

    Re: G-shock tin cans

    There are 2

    1. Round tin
    2. Hex tin
    3. Cardboard box with plastic stand

On the watch you have, a particular box will not change watch value.

Now if it is a limited edition watch then the value is decreased with out the correct box (for example a 35th Anniversary G-Shock in a non 35th Ann. tin with the correct outer box)

    Re: G-shock tin cans

The rounded gun metal tins like this:

    Name: GX-56-1BDR_King_G-Shock_13.jpg
Views: 90
Size: 66.6 KB

This was the standard tin up until the year 2011 so some early GA-100 and GA-110 models came in this box. If you find it today it means the G is old new old stock.

Some crazy and bold color GA-100 and GA-110 models models came in a different round black with colored dots tin up until the year 2013 that looked like this:

    Name: GShock-Watch-packaging_ad_l-2.jpg
Views: 91
Size: 15.5 KB

In 2011 the current hexagonal black box was introduced and most base GA-100 models sold outside Japan should come in one of these:

    Attachment 14170463

There is also a more silvery version introduced in 2013 for some more colorful GA-100/GA-110 models:

    Name: gshock_original_tin_box_1472387729_ea1c7115.jpg
Views: 100
Size: 43.2 KB

This box also comes in a taller version intended for G-Shocks with thicker manuals mostly Master Of G models:

    Name: s-l1000.jpg
Views: 100
Size: 93.2 KB

But GA-100 models should not come in that deeper version.

In addition to these tins you might find some intended for the Japanese market that comes in a JDM cushion display box that has been the standard G-Shock packaging in Japan for the past 13 years:

    Name: GXW-56-1AJF_4-700x700.jpg
Views: 90
Size: 47.0 KB

So if you find a GA-100 with one of those boxes you bought a GA-100 made for the Japanese market.

In Japan and parts of SE Asia there is also a cheaper type of card board mini shoe box looking box like this:

    Name: Photos-New-Yellow-UCS-GShock-DW-M5600A-4.jpg
Views: 92
Size: 97.1 KB

Some sellers that want want to save a few pennies and have limited space in the store might opt for this card board box instead of the tin boxes.

The way a seller order G-Shocks from casio is they order the watches separately and the packaging separately and when the delivery comes the G's will typically be placed either in a plastic tray like this:

    Name: 1403081_621108181281011_166227751_o.jpg
Views: 89
Size: 103.2 KB

Or in a blister like packaging for simpler models. Something similar to this:

    Name: 492028256.5.jpg
Views: 94
Size: 14.5 KB

Then the retailer re packages the watches into their proper retail packaging.
