G9000 Muddie - "Dual Illuminator" question?

I have a question about the Dual Illuminator function. From everything I've read here, this features should backlight not only the numeric display on the G9000 watches, but also the surrounding area of the face. I can't find it anywhere in the manual, but is the Dual Illuminator feature selectable?

I have a "regular" G9000 here that appears to possibly be malfunctioning? Hoping one of the G-Gurus here can help sort out this watch looks like it has a problem or if it's this way by design.

    On the left: G-9000-3VDR
Caseback marked: THAILAND MOV'T Y CASED IN JAPAN
    3031 Module

    On the right: G-9000-1VDR
Caseback marked: MADE IN THAILAND Y
    3031 Module

For reference, 1VDR was purchased from a WUS user. I have no quarrel with the seller, it's a fine watch (regardless of whether or not the "Dual Illuminator" is faulty) and was sold at a good price. The purpose of the post is simply to understand if folks with much more experience with G's have any ideas as to why this might be happening.

    Regular lighting (no EL):

    Dark with EL on:

    Any ideas?

    Hmm...
Clearly looks like a defective dial illumination.
Do you know if this watch was once disassembled for some reason?
There are a few springs inside the watch connecting the illuminator panels to the module.
Maybe one of these is missing/broken?
Or the watch was not reset after battery replacement.

The dial illumination is not user setable.

+1, the lettering around the dial should light up too like the one on the left.

Seems the G-9000-1VDR shines only as a single-illuminator.

    It's an error.

It is my understanding that ALL G9000 variations should have Dual Illumination. Is this correct? Or is it possible that some color or style combinations do not have this feature? The 1VDR shown above is clearly labeled as a 3031 module per the caseback and the strap says "Dual Illuminator," so my assumption is that the feature should work on this watch.

Strange, My Thailand movement, cased in Japan model has this:

    My MIRB has this:

I think yours has another concept or so, there I think the EL panel lights up both the display as the functions.

    Cheers,

I never saw a variation of a Mud, that comes without Dual Illumination.

In every Casio description you can read Dual Illumination. Why should the 1vr have only one light?

Re: G9000 Muddie - "Dual Illuminator" question?

I have the G-9000-1 too and my lume is the same as sjors. I've gone through the manual before and I don't remember seeing any available adjustment for toggling between Dual or 'Single' Illuminator.

There's obviously a defect with threadstarter's set and it should be dealt with Casio. Hope you have the warranty card still.
