I was watching a talk from Geoffrey Hinton and then I noticed this: he wears a F-91W. Who's this Mr. Hinton? He's a prof at the University of Toronto and also an employee of Google. He's nicknamed the Godfather of Artificial Intelligence (AI). His research lead to the great AI breakthroughs of the past 5-10 years. Whether it's image recognition, voice assistants (alexa, google home), self-driving cars, better amazon recommendations, drones that keep pointing at you as you move about, etc., you can thank this guy. And we haven't seen anything yet! Hinton was a Turing Award recipient of 2018, the Nobel Prize of Computer Science. Almost all cool AI that's happening can be traced back to this guy.
Facebook's Chief AI Scientist Yann Lecun? Yeah, Hinton's student.
Apple's Director of AI Research Russ Salakhutdinov? Yeah, Hinton's student.
Uber's Chief Scientist Zoubin Ghahramani? Yeah, Hinton's student.
Remember AlphaGo? Google's super smart algorithm that beat the best human Go player? It was developped by Ilya Sutskever. Yeah, Hinton's student.
Google didn't want to settle for one of Hinton's student for their core. They got the best, Hinton himself.
So yeah, the man is a big deal and he chooses to wear a Casio F-91W.
If you have 40 minutes, it's a fascinating talk! The watch spotting starts at 30min26s.
