    Got the bug

I bought a MTG-M900DA-8 from Amazon and love it. Yesterday I decided I wanted a black resin model and picked up a DW-5600E that has the classic styling. Now, I'm thinking about the DW-9052-1BCG that has the yellow lettering. I have a question though. I like the split display design but what exactly does the segmented bar next to the circle do?

    Re: Got the bug

Many Casio models, including the DW-6900 which shares a manual with the DW-9052, have little "visual displays" that work much like an analog watch's "second hand" and some people even use them AS a second hand for short-duration tasks.

Segments of the display(s) will "fill in" (or turn black on a traditional positive display) one after the other until the entire section is full, then often turn off at the same rate until the section is empty, then the cycle starts all over again. This pattern (or similar patterns) are often repeated (sometimes at a faster pace) when the watch is in countdown or stopwatch mode. The DW-6900 does this with the three circles at the top of the display, and the DW-9052 apparently does this with the circle AND the segmented bar section.

I saw a video on YouTube and I think you're right. It's kind of redundant with the seconds already being displayed. Anyway, I pulled the trigger on one and I'll have it soon. Amazon always delivers fast.

Another sort-of running joke I've seen around here is that those "graphic displays" let people know that the watch is still running.

Of course, if most analog watches stop, the hands simply stop moving so a stopped second hand is a good indicator. If most digital watches stop, the entire display goes blank -- so a visual display isn't really needed.

Enjoy your new watch when it arrives!
