    Grand Seiko Automatic Quartz Watch

I found this interesting. A $5,000 seiko watch has "4 screw fixed back" (5th to the last bullet point). I wonder what "Everyday life waterproof" means?

A $5,000 watch that is splash proof and tells the time. No Day or date.. nothing... granted +- 10 sec. year... but my atomic GW700BDJ is better than that.... (as long as it syncs to the atomic clock)

You are prolly wondering what a $5000 Seiko looks like, eh?

They seem to have quite a following, but I honestly can't see why at that sort of price.

I think Seiko need to create completely new brand .. like 'Lexus'. If this watch has a swiss brand name like 'Zenith', 'IWC',or 'breitling' no one would even question about the price.
I don't mind to compare this to that.. but Grand Seiko is in the same class to compete Rolex in Japanese market according to Seiko.

The customers pay the extra premium like $3000 for the brand name as long as they convince themselves its worth.

Can be used as a sieve in an emergency?

Probably more waterproof than your average Patek though!

And if you were just to compare GS to Patek, an absolute bargain. Handbuilt, more robust, more reliable, more accurate and more aesthetically pleasing than the majority of Patek dress watches.

Wonderful watches, by all accounts. The steel ones are more attractive, I think - but gold always turns me off.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

If you handled a Grand Seiko "in the flesh," you'd better appreciate the watch and its price tag. Personally, I buy a GS before a Rolex. The fact is, I'm currently contemplating the purchase of the one shown below. Also, I love my atomic watches as much as the next guy (especially my Seiko Brightz World Time), but a watch movement that is accurate to +/- 10 seconds per year is one hell of an accomplishment. Regarding water resistance, most dress watches are rated for 30M-50M. If you want more than that, you buy a sports or dive watch.

    Hi Gawain,

I'm myself not quiet a mechanical guy, but I guess most people here know that. I don't know if you had read the interview with Seiya-San on GMT+9 a few months ago. His story about the Grand Seiko somehow is engraved in my mind.

    Cheers,

Re: Grand Seiko Automatic Quartz Watch

It's a Seiko quartz for $5000. If I was to choose between a Rolex and a mechanical GS I may possibly go for the GS. Some of them look beautiful and IMO better than any Rolex dress watches I've seen. I can't see anything inducing me to spend 5k on a Seiko quartz, no matter how 'high end' it is. I'm most likely displaying ignorance, and shall browse the high end quartz forum to see what the appeal is at some point. I'm sure it must be more than the +/- 10 seconds a year accuracy for that kind of money. I'm also curious about the 4 screw back. Is it a similar arrangement to the 4 screw back on most G-Shocks that many consider an inferior option to a screw in back?
