GW-3000M-4AER just sold on Ebay for £290!! Why???

I'm confused... I buy stuff on Ebay either out of convenience, or because it's a bargain. This watch just sold on Ebay for £290, which as far as I can make out, is neither. A few minutes on 'google' can certainly source this item cheaper, and from legitimate dealers, not a private seller.

Would anyone here pay over the odds on Ebay? Maybe the buyer just got caught up in auction fever??

Hate to say but this sort of thing happens all the time. I see DW5600E's selling for over $100, when it can be found MUCH cheaper even in retail stores. I don't know why people do buy them, because that is definitely not the best deal. But as long as people continue to buy them, the sellers will continue to sell them.

I find things regularly over USA full retail after currency conversion on various eBay and amazon searches. When I'm looking for a "normal" watch not available in US, I try to establish local price in its home market first. You'd be amazed at the price fluctuation I was finding when hunting for a gd100ms-3!

This model has been very hard to find at dealers for RRP for many months. It seems it has steadily been rising in price and it has been selling for higher than that for quite a while.

This topic will probably raise the price more too.

Those darn 4AERs have got so expensive compared to the 6mo-1yr after it came out. I remember I thought it was so ugly that nobody would buy it and it would sell at a really good price; so I waited and now they cost more than they ever have!

I think in general, people are lazy. Don't take the time to look around.

Same thing happened last week on an item I bidded on. It was for a new in box playstation 2 USB headset I wanted to make skype calls for work. Bidding started at $10 and $4.95 shipping. I put in my bid and figured if I get it for that price I'd be happy, but wasn't going to go any higher.

Few days later, it's up to $20. Granted it is a discontinued item, but literally just a quick search on ebay itself and I found another brand new in-box for $17 BIN w/ free shipping. So I hit the BIN button.

People never cease to amaze me.

The seller just 'relisted' this watch, so either the original buyer didn't pony up, or he has a stock of this very rare watch?

Madness is probably the answer lol. Too many people willing to pay 100% + of RRP for, in a lot of cases, secondhand stuff.

I offered £40 for a blue Gulfman and it was turned down so I moved on. Not worth any more as I can find a good used black one for less and buy brand new strap & bezel from Casio.

My GD100-MS3 was less than £50 BNIB and same seller is now selling them at close to £70 - exchange rate changes? Or more likely a mistake when they put it on their eBay shop?!

Bidding Frenziness, and also ignorance to the fact that there are other places cheaper than the all mighty ebay.
It happens sometimes. People just explode. Natural causes.
