    GW5000 vs GWM5600 Wearability Question

    Hello,
I am in the process of deciding on my grails for 2011 and one of the watches I have always had my eye on is the classic GW5000 screwback from Japan.

I currently own both a GW5600J and a negative display GWM5600. I find these watches to wear quite differently, even though they look almost identical. I prefer the thicker bolder look and feel of the GW5600J to the thinner GWM5600.

I know that the GW5000 is thicker due to the screwback and is also heavier due to the steel case. So my question...does the GW5000 wear more like the thicker GW5600J or more like the thinner GWM5600? If it wears and looks more like the 5600J, then the GW5000 will definitely move to the top of my list.

    Thanks guys.

Re: GW5000 vs GWM5600 Wearability Question

    Personally, I don't know the 5600J, but I do have the DW-5000C, the GW-5000 and several GWM-5600s.

I really love the added weight of the two 5000 screwbacks above in comparison to the GWM-5600. It's not all that heavy, but the 5600 really has no weight whatsoever, and the 5000s just feel like you're actually wearing a watch. It's a great benefit, IMHO.

Also, of course, being the first G ever is a giant cool factor, so if you can get one, do so!

    Good luck, Paul

+1. I sold a gw-m5600bc for a gw-5000b and love the weighty feel of it. definitely makes it feel like more of solid piece.

I have a GW-5000 and a negative display GW-M5600. The 5000 is very good on the wrist - feels very solid, the extra heft (by no means a heavy watch) is very well balanced and the strap is excellent - I find it a better piece (which you would expect at the price !)

Re: GW5000 vs GWM5600 Wearability Question

I will add my 2 cents as a current owner of all three models in many different forms and band options.

My rating on comfort is this:
    #1 GW-5000 stock resin
    #2 GW-5000 on m5600BC composite metal bracelet
    #3 GW-5600J on stock resin
    #4 GW-5600J on 5600JBC composite metal bracelet
    #5 GW-m5600 on stock resin
    #6 GW-m5600 on m5600BC composite metal bracelet
#7 GW-m5600A version with strap colors of white, yellow, green, etc....

The general theme here is that in general the stock resin is more comfortable for me then the bracelets and that the 5000 is the best followed by 5600J and finally the m5600 followed up by the m5600s that are colored other then black (which have a very stiff strap that I find terribly uncomfortable) The only m5600 that I would move up the ranks of comfort was the m5625 with the clear jelly strap and bezel on white case and gold accents for 25th anniversary. This one was almost as comfortable as the 5600J.

Wait does this mean I have too many 5600's????

Thanks Doctorsti, do you find that the GW5000 has as much "wrist presence" as the 5600J? I find that the GWM5600 feels and looks thinner. I prefer the 5600J to the GWM. Does the screwback on the GW5000 give the watch extra height on the wrist like the 5600J?

Definitely not! You can NEVER have too many 5600/5000s:

Of these the DW-5000SL (same case as the GW-5000) definitely wears the most comfortable because of the round screwback. But the GWM is also quite good I think. You might also take into consideration the different functions:
    GW-5000:
    - 24 hr timer
    - 24 hr stopwatch
    - worldtime
    - alarms (4 + snooze)
    - no current time in other modes

    GW-M5600:
    - 1000 hr stopwatch
    - 60 min timer (current time shown)
    - worldtime
    - alarms (5 alarms with an optional snooze function on number one)

Of all my 5600/5000s the Spike Lee is my favourite because of the buttons (just easier to press than on any other model). And it shows time in timer and stopwatch mode.

    Greetings, Sedi
    Cheers

That's an interesting order there.. personally, I've always found the coloured solar atomic 5600's (green, white, yellow) to have more comfortable straps than the stock black one, perhaps because they are broader, dunno.. Why do you prefer the regular black one, any idea?

Oh and by the way, one cannot have too many 5600's, I believe there is simply no such thing... still waiting patiently for blue, (burning?) red and camo solar atomic 5600's:)

They are broader and flatter but to me they are far more stiff then the stock gw-m5600 strap which is black. Also the ribbing or undulations of the strap near the lugs is more compliant on the black strap so if you bend your wrist and the watch strap needs to expand slightly it feels better with the standard strap and not the wider flatter and less extensible colored strap.
