    GW7900B LCD Swap

I ordered a GW7900-1AL (positive display) from Amazon, and the negative display GW7900B showed up. They don't have anymore stock of the positive display model and they are $50 more on Ebay.

Anybody out there perform an LCD swap on a GW7900? I have seen the articles on rotating the polarization, but the LCD's are cheap, so I thought I would see if anybody has done it. I have seen folks doing the swap on other models, but it seems like there could be some weirdness on this one relative to the moon or tide display if I swap.

Depends, I've seen some lcd's that have text or graphics imprinted on the polarizer film. So if you removed it and put a new film on there to make it standard you won't have any of the text or lines anymore. I think the 7900 may have some lines imprinted on the film but i'm not 100% sure.

Thanks. To be clear, I was talking about replacing the whole LCD which only costs about five dollars.

Sorry I must have misread. I have replaced the lcd for a g7900 before. For me it's easy to swap out the lcd, because I do it as my job. It's not too hard on that model, just take your time and be careful.

And did the moon and tide screen show correctly after the positive/negative swap? That is the piece I thought could be a problem depending on how the module drives the LCD.

    Re: GW7900B LCD Swap

I replaced the lcd with the same type because it was cracked. But to answer your question, there won't be any problem when you swap using a positive lcd vs negative. The pcb sends the same signal regardless if the lcd is pos/neg.

Absolutely. I am probably going to rivet swap at the same time.
