Have You Been Using a G Shock for.......

Over 35 years or at least owned the same one that long? I posted a thread here; Finally Bought a New Square explaining why I bought a second one. The original watch is a DW5200 I got when that model was introduced.

How long has your G been running?

Yes I have, my mom got me my first for basic in 1983 when they first came out and she worked at Sears. Beat it to death and got my second in 1987,dw-5600c which I still have, along with a few others~

I'm amazed at the way my 5200 works yet today, it gains about 1 minute per year and always has the correct date :)

I still have a DW-5600C I had when I was a kid but for the life of me I cannot remember how old I was when I first got it. I forgot about it for a few years as it slept in a box that kept moving with me.

The older squares are still my all time favorites.

DW-9400, running 21 years uninterrupted. 35 years is pretty darned impressive.

With only 6 years under my belt I’m most definitely the new kid in town.

I think half of my G-Shocks are screwback.but I own a DW-5200 and a DW-5400 that I purchased back in 1984 at a now defunct retailer called Luria,s.it was a Southern version of service merchandise.you would pay up front and the box would come out of the backroom on rollers which made the whole purchase experience even cooler.man I miss those days.

Have users been replacing the o ring or using silicon grease on these old Gs. One of my Gs has been out of production for a while and wondering if I should hunt one down.

quick visual inspection is all you need to determine that, then itll depend on how you use the watch. if youre still using it as a beater, swimming with it regularly and the ring is looking a bit tired, def. get a replacement. if youre wearing it sparingly then a bit of grease is all you need. i go with the latter as i have dedicated beach beaters and most of my vintage pieces are semi retired now
