Hello from a brand new member

I was really bitten by the G-Shock bug a few weeks ago, and found this forum a couple nights ago. I just decided to join and say hello to everyone...this looks like a cool forum with lots of knowledgeable posters.

I am wondering, do any of you cut the straps down to size on your G-Shocks or are you ok with the strap wrapping around on the outside of your wrist? Any advice on the best way to go about shortening a resin strap? Or, anyone know of a place to buy different straps for G-Shocks?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Here is a shot of the classic 5600 I am wearing today.

    Cheers

    Jim

    WELCOME ABOARD!!!!!!

I cut down a lot of my straps. I just use a steel ruler and a razor blade to make a nice straight cut. Then I use one of those super-abrasive black emery boards to round the edges.

Just don't cut the strap too short. If you only have an extra inch or so, it makes it very hard to get the watch onto your wrist, with so little to grab onto.

    Welcome!

Yes, cutting the straps is quite easy, although it always feels like butchery as you approach with the blade. I've used what in the UK is known as a 'Stanley Knife' - the sort of knife that has a retractable razor-type blade. Single motion 'guillotine' cuts are best, because they leave a clean uniform surface. As Buzzbait says, use emery paper or something similar to finish the job.

You can always use the end of another strap, or a small coin, as a template (a clamp would help) - but it might not be so easy to get a clean cut.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

Cool Re: Hello from a brand new member

And that is why I prefer the metal bands that can be custom adjusted to fit perfectly.

    Picture Thank you, gentlemen!

And thanks for the tips on trimming down straps...I think I'll give it a try later tonight or this weekend.

Since posting earlier, I switched to this G2300-9V. I think this is my favorite G-Shock that I currently own. Although I am seriously thinking about picking up a GW5600BCJ-1.

    Cheers

Hey! I just got that same model on eBay this afternoon. BNIB for $30!!! Pretty good I'd say. This is a model that's spoken of very highly in this forum for its durability and good selection of functions. I can't wait to get it.
    It's always sunny in Boise!!
