    Help! Illuminator button resets watch!

    Hi

I hope someone can help me. I've had my G9000-3V Mudman for about 3 years now. Everything was fine until I hit the illuminator button to check the time in the middle of the night and I couldn't see anything. What actually happens is the screen goes completely black and sometimes it resets the date/time etc. Also if I hold the button down for an extended time it starts to beep and all manner of odd stuff appears on screen.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is it a fault or do I just need a new battery?

Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Jon

Sounds like you might need a new battery.

I had (have!) a DW6600 that did the same thing, except rather than going black, the display disappeared.

A new battery (plus pressing the A/C reset) fixed the problem.

Almost certainly a battery issue. It doesn't have enough juice to power the light and in trying it short circuits itself.

I'll agree that it sounds like it's time for a new battery!

(Am I the only person who saw "G-" in the model number and thought "maybe it just needs charging?" I think Casio should have stayed with the DW- prefix for this model since it's not solar, but anyhow....)

More fun and confusion with negative display models -- a blank display, or one that disappears IS black on a negative model like the G9000!

    Thanks all,
Battery replaced and everything is working properly again.
I was amazed at how much muck I scraped out of the watch when dismantled though!!

Yeah, a lot of gunk can build up underneath the bezel. It's not a bad idea to take off the bezel from a daily wearer about once every year or so and give the casing and inside of the bezel a good cleaning. That's assuming it's a model where the bezel comes off fairly easily once the screws are removed. Some are very difficult and risk breaking the small connector pieces that go around the buttons.
