    Help me please

Hi G shockers - first a confession, then a request.

I have only once owned a quartz watch (which was a late 1970's Swiss Zenith) & never owned a digital one. I have always been rather 'old fashioned' about most things - hence an appreciation for Swiss automatics. But I read Bruce's thread on High-end-quartz forum talking about uneducated prejudice for those who appreciate only Swiss automatics & I felt convicted.

So - I fancy going tomorrow to a local shop & buying a casio GShock (which I have always had a subtle admiration for especially as it is the preferred field operational use watch of the British SAS).

I have about £150 to spend on one. Which currently retailed model should I go for, being a technically incompetent, Swiss watch collector? It doesn't have to be pretty (are any ) it doesn't have to be able to speak several languages - it does have to tell the time, take a knock, go under water & not look too intrusive for this shy retiring chap. Are the analogue/digital metal bracelet ones any good????

    cheers in advance

    si

    Hi Simon, Welcome

As most people on this Forum will tell you, any G-shock you get will give you years of great use, without the worries of problems; a good question would be your needs?; G-shock's have so many types & functions; if you could post back with a basic needs list; I am sure this Forum can point you in the right directions.

    Re: Help me please

Thanks Brad - basic needs are VERY basic

    ~Tell Time clearly
    ~Tell time accurately
    ~Waterproof for swimming
    ~Stop watch would be useful
~Tough enough to cope with some sports use
    ~Not bright pink
~not look tooo out of place under shirt cuffs (not as important)

Quite liked the look on web of:
    G-100-2BVMUR -| Classic Combination

    cheers

That would be a 5600 (ok I am prejudiced hehe).

But really, the DW-5600E is basic, tough, has enough functions, is not too flashy and pretty cheap. So if you don't like it, you can always buy another G-shock.

That is, if you are not looking for a watch with hands.

I was in that situation not that long ago and posed a similar question to this group.

I ended up going with the 2300 you can see at the bottom of that thread and have been very happy thusfar.

    Good Luck

    Re: Help me please

The G-100 is a very good choice if you want a good basic analogue G.

    I'd echo Hanzemannetje's recommendation of a DW-5600 for a good (and classic) digital G.

I would also add the DW-6900 - another good (and classic) digital G.

Of the three, the DW-5600 would slide under shirt cuffs the easiest.

I'm not sure if you're in the UK (the SAS reference suggests you might be) - but if you are, the only one you're likely to find in a local shop is the G-100.

One last recommendation - the G-8000. It has better functions than all of the above, and will slip under a shirt cuff. I love it to bits, but its modernist styling isn't everybody's idea of a G-Shock. They are sold in the UK, but not every shop will have them. I got mine from Sunglass Hut.

    Happy shopping!

    Re: Help me please

my recommendation would be to got with an all digital G. my favorites are the g-2300/g-2310 and the new mudman g-9000. if you prefer an metal watch over plastic, you might find the new GW-810 models interesting.

DW-5600E. As I always say, everything else is just gravy.

Well, Seamaster, can't say about the time, but seems like it keeps the day and date all right! ZZ
