How did this guy make this screwback mod?

I found this guy on instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/BW3-cRfDhU2/

Apparently he combined a DW-5600E with one of the DW-5000 cases. How is this even possible? Did he change the crystals? Seems like there is no really easy way to make this mod?

It would make a great "modern" DW-5600C though.

can't see the model number, but i think it has to be a 5000 case/back from 2001 (thailand + 1545)... with a new 5600E crystal?

    dw-5000d or dw-5000-1jf probably?

So he changed the crystal? As I thought. Seems like a hard mod to do. Any guides on how to changing the crystals? :)

He definitely changed the crystal. Either by pushing out the crystal from the DW-5600E casing or buying a new one from Pacparts. Probably the casing that he used came from DW-5700 [1545] and DW-5000D or DW-5000BL. These models have the Thailand on the screw back. IMHO, he used the DW-5700 casing and not the DW-5000 because the DW-5000D/BL are more collectible and you can still fit regular DW-5600X band and bezel on them where in the DW-5700 is not that collectible and the bezel is not in available anymore.

Thanks. The dw-5000’a can be found here and there so that’s no problem but it would probably not be worth slaughtering a perfectly good watch to get a 5600e screwback.

I’m just gonna keep hoping for a 5600C reissue.
