how do you feel if you encounter

    resin rot

will u feel like all your resin watches are ticking time bombs and sell most of it away?

    or

will you feel the urge to buy more?

I have spare bezels and straps for all my G-Shocks, so I do not have to worry about resin rot.

My DW-5600c is only on it's second set of resin, so I think this watch could be passed onto my kids. Let them worry about resin rot!

guess you're right, with so many cases of resin rot on the forum, guess most people would buy a spare set of bezel/straps when they buy their gshocks if they do have the intention to make the watch a keeper

Never had a G for more than 8 years. So I don't know.
I guess I would replace the resin if the module was ok.

I always buy spare parts when I can at regular retail. Worst case, I lose the watch or decide to sell it, I can sell the spare parts for as much (or sometimes more) than I paid for them. Plus, you can sometimes get a good deal on an old, rotted out watch for which parts are no longer available. If you happen to have spare parts on hand, you can get that watch for a good price and make it look new again. I have done this a few times. Some spare parts, though, are simply unavailable through any channels or any reasonable price, and so if you buy one of the watches that takes these rare parts, you are taking a risk that you will only have it for a short time.

I think the issue of resin rot (depolymerization) is a bit overblown. It seems to be an issue with only some older models, not all. I have G-shocks from the 90's that are still 100% like new with respect to the resin.

Agreed. Newer Gs have somewhat "tougher" resin parts as compared to their older counterparts.

How should you store the replacement parts?
In a dry cool place or maybe the refridge/freezer?
Would hate to buy a $700 Frogman and have it rot over time.

I think just in a box, in a closet, with a couple of silica gel packets thrown in (not too many, because you don't want to dry out the resin, just keep it fresh. I would not put them in a freezer because of the moisture level. Of course, nothing will last forever, even in the best conditions.

I just keep them in a ziploc bag, in the dark. The biggest cause of PUR degradation is UV, I believe (think sunlight).

It's a fact of life. G-Shocks are semi-disposable. It's a shame if a much-loved watch crumbles to dust, but that's the way it is.

I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...
