    Hydro Protrek/Pathfinder

Has anyone made such a mod so far, I'm considering to try it out but I don't know all the angles about how the oil will affect the functionality of the sensor, because as I understand the presure in the oil is higher than the air preasure. Will it give acurate readings after the mod ?

No, never seen this on the board. So you might well be a first, other than the very slight increase in readability I am not sure of the value, unless of course there is a real diving need, given that Protrek`s can exceed 100m and the 130/1500 can exceed 200m.

What I do think is more oil and more expansion, equals a bigger bubble. The sensor should be fine as it is sealed from the back. As solar Protrek`s can generate significant heat I would be more concerned with too much positive pressure and blowing the seals.

All the same an interesting precedence

my biggest concern is the same as the others have mentioned. how it would affect the sensors, especially the barometric and thermometer.

Just curious: What's the benefit of doing this to a G or Pathfinder? Because I don't know, it looks to me like you're possibly gonna screw up the watch for no practical gain in functionality. I do understand that some rare watches have this for ultimate depth resistance....but is that actually useful?

It's like greasing your hand tools to keep them from rusting. You grease the electronics of the watch to keep the water from affecting it. There's a lot more to it, but i'm too lazy to type it all. i'm hungover right now.

I don't see as much reason to do this on a Protrek since they all have good WR. However, I would be very curious about a hydro mod on several other ABC watch brands with low water resistance.

I can't seem to make up my mind , I think I will be on the hunt for a real cheap used one in the sales corner to be my guinnea pig, I think I would like to try it on a prg-40 first. What do you think it is a good choice,I know it has 4 batteries but it will be an interesting mode considering the dual lcd display.

The 40 would be my last choice out of the Protrek`s as you need to open it regularly for battery changes, I would look for a used 80, once done and sealed there will be little reason to open the watch again
