    HydroMod issue with my GW-M5610.

I had a look at my Hydro’d collection this morning and noted that one of my GW-M5610s had a couple of small bubbles in each top corner immediately below and on the border of the solar panel and display. So I opened him up to remove the offending items and immediately noted that the rubber washer/shock absorber had expanded. This mod was completed about 2 weeks ago and was not showing any issues until I noticed the bubbles today. I checked my Swim Team photo and noted they were present in that shot too. (As they were/are in the neg- GW-M5610 too. Interestingly, in the same place but not anymore. ) Not sure if the same will happen now with the DW-5600 mods. I keep a close eye on them too over the next few days/weeks.

Don’t know if this is connected to the washer expanding or not. However, I have now trimmed the washer to fit.

(Ironic that this was my 999th post. Maybe it’d have been better if it was post 666)

I can remember a topic here in f17 exactly about the rubber expanding due to hydro-ing. But My search-fu is weak.

If it hadn’t been for the bubbles, I’d never have known that the rubber washer/spacer had expanded. After the fix, I noticed that parts of the display digits had faded.

So it was another strip out and I wondered what I could do next. Brainwave, perform a battery reset. That done the trick, fully restored display. Only he wouldn’t sync. Then I realised I’d need to set the home city. Finally!

I love to hear feedback/report on mods (not limited to just hydro mod) and I try to do that as well whether it is successful or not as that would provide insights to other members. I think that is one great benefit of the forum. Great job Ken!!!
Back to the topic, I think if I decide to hydro mod my dw-5600 or g-5600 I might just soak that rubber cushion in silicone oil as suggested by Kevio for a week or two to let it expand before trimming it back to original size. Will definitely document the mod and report here. IFF I have a gut to execute it.

Just have another idea for dw-5600. Don't know if it is possible to replace module casing frame and plastic back cushion from screw back model. In other word, will 3421 fit in a resin case? I have successfully put 3229 module in a screw back case before. Not sure if this would work vice versa. Maybe more experience member can confirm this?

I totally agree. Feedback, both successful and unsuccessful, benefits everyone. This forum, and f17 in particular, is fantastic for that.

If it wasn’t for the inspiration and support I received from f17 members in particular, I would never have considered dismantling, modding and re-assembling my precious G’s. I’m learning everyday, enjoying every single second of it and if I can give something back in return then I’m happy.

Can I suggest you order a replacement rubber or 2 and soak them instead, in case you decide against the hydro mod.

Sorry Facelessman, I have no idea, but you’ve got me thinking.

How does the mod improve viewing angle? Could you take a photo?

In all honesty, I don’t think it does improve so much with the pos+ display as it does with the neg-.

Here’s some non-scientific shots in comparison with my un-modded GW5K. I’ve added a neg- display shot at the end.Name: 21097809-BEAC-439C-8EC3-B655C2E88E63.jpeg

    HydroMod issue with my GW-M5610.

I've done my dw-5600 and prg300. The viewing angle improved greatly on the dw5600, not as much on the prg due to (I believe) the solar cells making the display further from the crystal.

I’m not sure why the lcd on the dw is brown. It was my fishing watch. Maybe just sub exposure, reaction with the oil, or it’s just old (1545 module)
