    Smile I am a G-Shock convert.

    Hi all.

I just bought my 1st G-Shock and it arrived from Japan today!
    It is a GW-M5610BC-1JF and... WOW ! ! !

I am a vintage mech & tuning fork watch kinda guy (the only quartz I have is a SWATCH Skin I received from my mum in the 1990's) and so this purchase has been well outside my normal realm of watch considerations.
After searching this great resource for suggested "beater watches" I settled on the G-Shock for my go-to gym watch and I haven't been able to put it down!
What a watch and how great is the combi-bracelet!

The first world problems that I have now created for myself...

The combi-bracelet is too nice so I found a "need" for convertible adaptors and NATO strap- they are en route.

I have a near indestructible watch but I now have a need for bull bars- they are en route.
    I am a G-Shock convert.

Since the bull bars were just ordered and I like this watch, I can't take it to the gym tonight. Or can I? Maybe I shouldn't. I just don't know. I didn't see this coming!

I thought this watch would live in my gym bag. Nope. I can no longer see this happening. Too nice (I can't believe I'm saying this about a plastic cased watch). Somehow I'll have to find or make a spot in my "Misc"
    watch drawer.
    I am a G-Shock convert.

I have fitted the combo-bracelet and have been wearing it for 2.5 hours now but I can't bring myself to take off the plastic over the combo-bracelet metal clasp. I think I need a beater G-Shock... Seriously - WTF?!

Anyway, better late than never to the club.

Since it's Solar powered, it's not a good idea to leave it in the dark (it doesen't matter wether it's in a bag or a drawer) just leave it in a luminous room and it will work forever. Forget about babying it, it's build to take beatings and survive, also you can replace any worn/damaged part when needed.

    Enjoy your G-Shock!

    Hi CCCP,

    thank you. Good tips.
If I go away, I'll store the watch somewhere that receives sunlight during the day. When at work, I think it'll just find the spot where I took the dress watch from. Just reading up on the TOUGH SOLAR, it should get enough light from runs and gym time daily.
I just watched a YouTube video about replacing the bezel etc so you're absolutely right. I'll stop babying it and treating it like a vintage mech and give it a tour of the gym. Thanks CCCP.

If you do plan to store it, make sure power saving mode is on. It'll turn the display off and it wont come back on until it get some light. That will of course help preserve the battery charge.

    Re: I am a G-Shock convert.

Haha great thread, welcome aboard and nice collection.
Every collection and watch lover should have at least one G just for how practical they are, they are a watch you truely dont have to worry about having on your wrist.

Ive never been much of a square fan but i can appreciate what they are about for the purists.

The combi bracelet looks great on these, if i owned one id definitely put it on the black combi, it gives the watch a good look.

    Where are you in Oz?

    cheers

Welcome to the forum. I also only recently discovered the real-life advantage of an indestructible, digital watch over a mechanical timepiece.

Congrats! It's a slippery slope around the G world. Most folks can't have just one. You've been warned lol.

Encourage someone. The world has enough critics.

No diy plastic screen protector for the mineral glass? Not a g-shock convert! jk jk jk congrats!

Btw, that combi bracelet would look really nice on a gw-5000...

    Re: I am a G-Shock convert.

Nice to see another analog / mechanical guy get hooked on G-Shocks.

And the combi-bracelet is a great way to get started. In my opinion, I think it's the best bracelet around. VERY comfortable. There's something about the design where I don't ever feel uncomfortable with it, albeit my wrist narrow from cold or swelled a little from heat. Something about the linkage design and the hard resin parts, perhaps. I don't like the module in the GW-M5610. Alarm tones are too quiet. But I wear this watch more than I expected, simply because of that band.

Now get yourself some black bullbars and you'll be all set!

(PS: One word of caution -- be prepared for the fact that you WILL buy another G-Shock in the near future. It's inevitable!)
