    I bought my first g-shock

I bought a gw-500a. I work in a machine shop so i wanted a tough watch. I like the bumpers on the top and bottom of the watch and the recessed face. also like that its solar powered and atomic. One thing i dont like is having to replace the seals every 3 years. The first day I wore it to work someone asked me is that a g-shock. Then he went and got his g-shock and showed it to me. He wont wear it while working.

Wow! Congrats! That's a nice chunck of G you got there, looks solid and dependable. Sadly, I won't see it where I am, we don't get the atomic models. Your friend is funny, he won't wear his G-Shock to work, when it's meant for the kind of environment you guys work in, lol??? But I'm like that too sometimes, I cringe whenever I bump my G against something, particularly if it's my Frogman or a well loved vintage.

Also welcome to the forums and post some wrist shots if you could.

Congrats on the new G. That was the 2nd G that I bought and for the same reasons. I am a CNC machinist and I wore my DW-004 for about 4 or 5 years with no problems. The band started to get a little frayed around the edges so I started looking for a new one and that was the one that I ended up getting. Although I can't understand why someone would buy a G and NOT wear it

Congrats on the buy! I wouldn't say you need to replace the seals every 2-3 years. If you simply lube the gasket with a little silicone grease every couple of years, the gaskets will last a long time!

I run a cnc grinder. and some coolant gets on the watch. I hope that wont hurt the watch. The guy at work wont wear it while working because he paid 200.00 for his g-shock. other people at work look at my watch and dont ask me anything about it.

I think he has a casio mtg900da-8v. he bought it 2 years ago. He says the metal band is better then the resin band. The resin band on my g-shock is the biggest resin band i have seen on a watch. also has a bump at the end of the band.

Most of us haven't, but I recall someone finding it useful for noting when they had last taken their medication.
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

You will be happy with your G-shock.

To give you an idea of how tough they are, read this testimony:

    Enjoy your watch.
