I want a basic G shock but which do I choose?

    Hi
I've been thinking a while about getting a beater that I can use when swimming and playing with my kids or playing american football with my friends. A G shock would surely fit the bill but I would like it to have only the basic functions: alarm, chrono and timer. I would really like a plain dial without any peculiar circles containing segments going back and forth with no real use besides looks,I guess, I really hate those things. I had an casio once that I gave to my brother just because of the annoying circles.

So what should I get and where should I buy it?

    Regards Erik

    Analogue or digital?
I used to list my watches here until I realised it ruined people's Google searches...

If you live in the US, amazon has a great selection at good prices. Just search on G shock and you'll find everything...amazon and third party sellers.

Ebay for sure. Go for a vintage 5600.

    Hi,
even if you don't like graphical elements on the display, I would suggest the DW-6600:

The graphical area isn't too big like on the DW-6900 and it has one big advantage over the DW-5600 or DW-6900 - you can scroll upwards and downwards when making adjustments. That's what I always hated about the DW-6900 or DW-5600 - when you use the countdown and scroll too far you have to do it all over again . I think the DW-6600 is the best of the 'basic' Gs and it certainly has the brightest EL-backlight (maybe only rivaled by the DW-8200 Frogman).

    Greetings, Sedi
    Cheers

The modern Mudman series (G-9000, GW-9010) in general except for GW-9000 has no 'eyes'. GW-9010 has a great crisp & legible display.

MTG-910 is also an excellent looking G with a great display.

Riseman (GW-9200) has a lot of info on the dial but no eyes.

There are lots more - including analogue models - but seeing as how you say basic I'm thinking you have no interest in solar power/atomic timekeeping so I would say a 5600 series watch or a G-9000 Mudman fits the bill, and you would just choose the styling you prefer.

As a dark horse option, if you like 'vintage' type G Shocks, the MRG-110T in my sig is about as simple as it gets and very classic looking. They are not all that hard to find.
