I'm bored with the endless 5600 variants

Is it just me that is immensley frustrated by the seemingly endless numbers of 5600 variants out there? Can't Casio think of anything else these days? Where's the inventiveness and the flair gone?

It's basically a safe model for Casio, just like it is DW-6900.

Widely accepted, and platform that allows them endless color matching possibilities when creating LE and SE models.

I don't see this changing any time soon, though.

The 5600 is a very well thoght out basic design.
I like it very much, no blinking graphs, no roundish bezel around a sqare display and flat enough to fit under a sleeve.

So for me there is nothing to complain about keeping this design alive.

There has always been inventiveness and flair. For every GW-M5600, there's a G-7800, or a G-8000.
    For every GLX-5600, there's a G-7900.

The fact is, the 5600 square design sells well - whether through repeat sales of old 5600 variants or for new comers.

You could argue that Casio do the same thing with the 6900 series (it must have almost as many special editions now) and the Frogman.
The difference is that the 5600 series is based on the iconic early G-Shocks and will probably always have some place in the G-Shock line.

To me, the 5600 (and also the 6900) is the basic and retro model on where the artists and collaborators like to do their customizations on. It's like the Nike Dunk or the Adidas Superstar.

Casio is wise to keep the 5600 style alive, and at the forefront of their lineup. It would be a huge mistake to let this classic icon go. Given the vast number of other models they offer, there is something for everyone. If one does not like the 5600 style, they may simply pass it up and choose something else.

    Cheers...

For each 5000/5600 model there are tens of other model out there. And you don't have to buy any of those classic models if you don't want to, you know. Choice is a good thing.

Actually, there is one improvement Id like to see to the 5600 series - a version thats 5-10% bigger.
Not so big as to spoil it, just to give a bit more presence for bigger folks. Say up to 6900 width.

    +1

I'd agree with that. A few mms bigger and it'd be perfect for me. Doubt that'll ever happen tho.

I'm all for the 5600 variants it's the staple iconic G that should remain in the G-Shock portfolio.

Personally, i find that Casio has been rather innovative with the Masters of G, C3 series, MTG's, etc & more recently G-7900.
