    Wow, you sure left the door wide open on this one, didn't you??!! Since you are new to Casio's you may not realize just how many different G-shocks and Protreks (and other Casios) are available (and at so many different price points)!!

    You want a higher-end Casio, dress-type watch that has a slim design, and some cool tech, check out the OCEANUS line.

    For a variety of dress and/or sport watches on bracelet, check out the Edifice line.

    For "ABC" watches (ABC for altimeter, barometer, compass) designed for mountaineering and the outdoors, check out Casio's PROTREK line.

    But you are in the G-shock forum, so naturally we're going to tell you to check out Casio's G-shocks! Highest-end g-shock models, look at the MR-G line, up to several thousand dollars. Other premium Gs include the MTG (latest gen with GPS tech), and the GPW-1000 "BEAST" (affectionate nickname! lol), with hybrid multi-band 6 and GPS signal reception.

    But if you're headed to Japan, IMO you must visit at least a couple g-shock stores and try on all kinds of models. They vary in materials, size, COLORS, features, and of course price!

    Some others you must put on your "try-on" and "prepare to buy" list!:

    • Rangeman - one of the best featured all-digital G-shocks;
    • Mudmaster - a new model, large and cool, with ABC functions -- ana-digi;
    • Frogman - one of the iconic G-shock models - offset case design, very recognizable and often very sought after (and I must add, the GWF-1000 is a premium digital g-shock model!!);
    • Gulfmaster - another ABC g-shock, this time ana-digi;
    • Mudman - another tough and popular choice;
    • GW-5000 - one of the 'grails' of "square" g-shocks; solar and atomic, very comfortable strap;
    • GW-A1100 Aviator -- a very cool analog G!
    • and TOO many other models to mention!! (really!! You MUST see them in a store -- plan to be there awhile!)

    Wish I was you and visiting Japan!! Have fun!

    Piowa, believe you meant to say GXW-56-1B --- best DIGITAL G!

    money no object and you want the japanese experience? well my friend, you just go ahead and mosey on down to the official g shock store in daiba (tokyo bay, few stops from tokyo station) and ask for "one mrg-g1000 please"

    after that you can duck over to diver city plaza for some more shopping, some eating and to see the 1:1 scale gundam ;)

    GW-5000, Frogman GWF-1000, or MRG-G1000. All made in Japan models. Since it's your first G-Shock I would suggest GW-5000.
