Importing G-shocks from Japan and USA to the UK

Is there any way in which you can avoid the customs duty and the VAT, that they put on top, and does anybody have any sellers on the bay that can help you do this?

    thanks

    Paul

One way would be to get Casio UK/Europe to pull their blooming socks up and get us an official UK centre/stockist where we can order/purchase any G-Shock that is released.
I know some models for example are special Japan release only, therefore I would not expect to get these, however sometimes these can be imported so who knows even these might be available. Spottek import some rare Japan release models to the UK already. http://www.sporttek.co.uk/Casio_G_SH...57tb056g80puh1
We definatly need Casio UK/Europe to address this problem ASAP.

Marking it as a gift doesn't do anything. It's still importation of goods from outside of the EU and is subject to tax if they exceed the value threshold for that type of item for that country.

I should also mention that it's pretty much pot luck whether you get tagged by Customs and get a bill from them. I have a friend who gets a lot of packages from abroad and he's only be sent a Customs VAT bill once AFAIK.

I also sent a friend something in the UK from Japan worth a couple of hundred £ and that went though with no VAT bill, which was a major surprise.

From my experience, ParcelForce routinely submit the item to their friends in Custom. I think they do so to collect their hefty admin charge.
PF is unfortunately quite often used as the local handler in the UK.
