Off topic John Mayer is a watch collector

I know this is off topic but I thought you guys/gals might be interested in a NY Times article about musician John Mayer and his watch collection. Needless to say it's nice to have lots of cash to buy whatever suits your fancy. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/08/t-...5JAtCEPQG+iQNQ

I will have to stick to Casio's

His collection will never be complete until he has at least one G-Shock...

...it's the only way he can prove he's not a snob.

Actually he's got a GShock. I remember a story he was telling years ago about whether to wear a GShock or a Rolex to a certain interview.

I like the fact that he never buys a watch he wouldn't wear. My dad told me to never date someone I wouldn't marry, and that worked out well for me. My biggest problem isn't a watch I won't wear, but trying to decide which one I will wear today.

Re: John Mayer is a watch collector

strange article. i only have one cd of his, and its the trio live album referenced in the story. and it's a fine blusey / rock thing, just fine. but yeah, when i hear about someone rich and famous who is a 'collector', a hint of skepticism always crops up. but in this case, it would seem he really is into watches.

“I have an emotional void that I can fill by occupying my brain with the ins and outs of stuff,” he said deadpan. [...] Collecting has given him a different kind of escape.

    a commenter later wrote

it's not necessarily an escape. He could be in denial, avoiding the difficult human connections that are more meaningful and personal, ones that do not revolve around material things.
I too have become obsessed with certain material things: amplifiers, cameras, shoes, suits, whatever, but I am aware that this is just compulsive shopping, bordering on addiction, and a terrific time-waster that keeps me from engaging in more the meaningful pursuit of my art.

    anyhow, who knows....
