Just bought my first Mudman, a DW-8400!!

    Hello all,

This is my first Mudman and to be honest probably the only one I will own. I love the shape of this one in both the Mudman and Codename forms.

I think this is the golden eye version, for whatever that means, and I have already decided to mod the watch when it arrives. I don't like the lettering so will be painting all of that in a satin black along with dying the bezel black to get rid of the grey.

Anyone know if the little gold eye comes out and can be painted/sprayed?

Here is the pic as she is. Any modding suggestions welcome.

    Hi Catch 22

The 8400 can be modded quite easily , all three of the eyes can be removed and painted , but more importantly the whole dial face surround can be painted if you don't want black . The printing on the dial is all on the underside of the crystal and if you like some of it can be removed with paint remover I discovered by accident .
Slap Light ? I have no idea what casio was thinking when that was put on the mudman .
Here's a couple I've had some fun with , I did have the small eyes on the green one painted yellow for awhile , but didn't like it so I removed the paint .

    best regards Scott.

I removed the paint (well, most of it) with my smallest flat-headed screwdriver and used the plastic insert from a 6900, as I was never keen on the silver "eyes".

    Thanks guys!

Smart, now that's what I'm talikng about!! I too dilike the big HEX eye. Did the 6900 face plate drop straight in or did it need a mod? I'm thinging 6900MS module and face plate!!

Just what the heck took you so long !?!? LOL!

Keep the hex eye mate, that's one of the DW-8400 most prominent features.

I also have had much fun with modding mine, I have altogether 7 of the DW-8400 Mudman family and 2 DW-8500 CodeNames.

    Here's few of mine...

My custom 'Silver Eye'...dyed bezel, repainted lettering:

Code Name DW-8500, negative LCD mod, dyed bezel, custom lettering:

    My MINK DW-8400 Muddie:

    Custom 'Red Back Spider' DW-8400Z-1T:

Red Back Spider squeezed in between MIB and MIB-II Mudman:

    Have fun!

Re: Just bought my first Mudman, a DW-8400!!

Just received the watch in the post today!!

It's absolutely mint, although I don't like the colours to be honest.

My first impressions are that it is fairly large and has a very nice rubber feel to the bezel rather than resin. I'm going to remove the lettering from the watch completely, bezel and strap with goof off when it arrives soon.

Is the CASIO lettering on the crystal of the face plate? I don't like the colouring of this thats all.

Also, what modules from other watches will fit this casing? I think that the 6900's do but are there any others?

    Cheers for any help,

Great stuff, congrats on your first REAL Mudman

The lettering is on the underside of the crystal, and not hard to remove. I however wouldn't do that as the whole watch would look a bit out of sync.

The lettering around the edge under the crystal isn't easily removable at all, jus to keep the things in perspective.

Module face plate is a very basic plastic part with no markings or lettering with three removable "eyes". You can paint and mod those separately no problem. I'd for example spray paint the plastic face plate in some lighter metallic color, and three eyes in black...matte or gloss. Keep in mind the Mudman is in yellow/gold, so the whole thing need to work together color-wise. Up to you...whatever you do, please post some pics here.

Modules and face-plates that fit the DW-8400 Mudman case are many...you already mentioned DW-6900, I'd just add DW-8500, DW-8800, DW-9000 and many more.

    Good luck!

Only the DW, not the GW unfortunately That's what I was planning before the actual dimensions of the GW-6900 were known. What a watch that would have been...
