Just bought a Navy Frogman GW-200

    Update:
The watch arrived yesterday and was treated to a new skin. The band and bezel from a GW-225-A1!!

    Hello all,

I have just bought a Navy GW-200. The seller has stated that it is a limited edition and I was wondering if that is true. I'm not bothered either way as I just wanted any frog for my collection.

I am thinking already about dying it black and stealthing the bezel but have a couple of questions.

    1) Can you dye with the paint on the strap and bezel still in place?

    2) Would I be better off buying a replacement strap and bezel?

    Cheers,

    Catch22.

I think all Frogs are somewhat limited and have been told that they sell out every year they sell them.

I would not dye the orignal bezel / strap. try casio usa see if the still have parts. the number is in a sticky at top of forum also if you use the search for dye projects you will see several with directions and photos just found one. also check with tik tok. will try and find that link.

The GG band/bezels dye very well as long as you don't mind the jelly look. They should also be available via Casio USA though I have not checked on that for some time.

hmmm, you got this from bbtiesto (hk seller) right? awesome catch! 100% authentic, totally reliable and trustworthy seller from ebay...no worries about him dude

like what jesterca said, i wouldn't dye the original band and bezel too. i would get a light coloured (white or skeletal) band and bezel to dye. the original band and bezel will be cleaned well and kept for future usage

by the way, does anyone know if the 2 decorative screws on the frogman bezel need to be taken out before dyeing? and can the band retainer be dyed too without melting? cos i saw someone from here dyeing his GG frog a nice shade of purple some time ago, but he didn't dye the retainer.....

Take the band retainer off for sure. It will melt! I imagine the decorative screws will come off but not sure how well they will go back on. I doubt they will absorb any of the dye anyhow, no need to removed IMO.

The decorative screws on the bezel aren't screws..simply decorative.
Once you have the bezel off push them from the back and they pop out. After your dye job simply push them back in. Also pay attention to your bezel screws.
    You'll have 4.
    2 long and 2 short.
And as previously noted by natornate REMOVE the buckle and strap retainer. The heat from dyeing will turn it into a shrinky-dink. You can wait until the temp of the dye bath cools and pitch the retainer in then. It will absorb some color but not as much as the band/bezel.
    Have fun,

Re: Just bought a Navy Frogman GW-200

Actually, you can dye the keeper ("strap retainer") if you suspend it in the water with a coat hanger or something similar. The heat of the bottom of the pan is what melts the keeper usually, not the boiling water. Also, because of it's size and thickness you don't need to leave it in the water as long as the band/bezel. Just dunk and let it set for 30 seconds, pull it out and check the color...then repeat till you're happy.

I've boiled plenty of straps with the keepers on the straps, but I always constantly stir the mix, so the keeper never rests on the bottom of the pan to shrink/melt.

And yes, you can dye with the paint still in the bezel, but sometimes doing so makes the paint take on a weird color. You're much better off removing the paint first.

And about your Frogman. It's not a "limited edition". It was the first model in the Solar Frogman generation. It has a limited availability, but wasn't intended as a "limited edition". I would not dye the original band/bezel. Instead, source replacements you like, or can dye.

Re: Just bought a Navy Frogman GW-200

    Thanks for the replies guys!!

I have bought a GW-225-A Bezel and strap from tiktox.com (£40) instead of dyeing the OE strap/bezel.

Half an hour after buying it I was offered the very same strap/bezel for £25, Doh!!

    Never mind, it happens.

    Cheers,
