Light, Sound and Magic - illumination tweaks on G-Shocks

    Hi,
just found something out about the illumination on G-Shocks. I always thought the G-8000 is the only G-Shock that doesn't turn off the light when starting the stopwatch or changing modes - guess what - I was wrong! You can get almost every G-Shock (at least the newer ones) to do this. The trick is simply to mute them (my G-8000s are always muted - therefore I thought they were the only ones where the light stays on). When the watch doesn't beep anymore when pressing a button the light stays on and you can easily use the functions in total darkness. Casio designed them so that not too much strain is put on the battery - so sound and light don't go together. Even on the rally timer function on the GW-9010/GW-M850 the sound and EL-flasher don't work at the same time but slightly offset. This 'tweak' works best on G-Shocks where you can set the illumination duration to 3 sec or more. It doesn't work on the G-7800 however since the LED flashes when changing modes and EL and LED don't work at the same time - but you can at least start the stopwatch or timer without the light switching off when in mute mode.

    Greetings, Sedi

    Wow that's a nice tip!

works well on my edifice efa-122 with a dedicated EL button.

doesn't work too well on my sgw-100 coz the EL button is shared. still can't set an alarm in the dark, not that it matters coz the alarm is very weak in the first place hahaha. btw the compass doesn't update while the EL is on.

oh i tried on my timex also, stopwatch still beeps even when muted so the EL blinks for a split second but turns on again. thanks NightMode!

PS for the 1000000th time casio pls add NightMode!!!

I tried it and it works. However, I prefer it with the sound. It's easier for me to simply count the beeps to get to my desired mode than it is to press the light and look actually search for it. Home Time has a higher pitched beep as well, so all I had to do is listen and I know where I am.
