Little star/diamond shaped symbol on 5600 display for backlight

What is the purpose of that little symbol over the seconds? It doesn't seem to make a difference whether its enabled or not. I vaguley remember it having something to do with the backlight, but I don't remember.

It causes the light to flash with the alarm.

Oh...is that all? That would be useful in some situations. Do the more current G models still to that? I have a 2300b, and a Stormtopper and a MT-G that should come home in the next few days. Thanks!

Some do, including the 'Stormtrooper'. It's quite useful in a noisy environment where you might not hear the alarm. On some models, the diamond tells you the auto EL is on rather than the flashing alert, but on your 5600E it's for the flashing alert.

My 2300 has 'auto EL' that shows up in really small text on the dial for that.

    Thanks again!

I have a G2300 too (2 in fact). They're one of my favorites. I think most of mine have 'auto EL' or just 'A EL' too, but some have a diamond graphic. The only one I can think off off-hand is the G8000.
